Ghost. Totally thought ghost was American until I got more into them/him.
I was surprised to find that Robert Palmer was British. I had him down as American.
I had no idea Mark Knopfler was British until like 10 years ago.
There's an uncomfortable insinuation about the meaning of "European" lurking in this question.
Can't say about musicians, but I remember being surprised a lot when I was young. It's the actors that get me. First time I saw behinds the scenes footage of Black Hawk Down, "They're ALL British?!"
