I'd highly recommend High Sierra showerheads. The wand style ones from them are a bit expensive, but their spray pattern is unmatched, and they're made of all metal.
They're water saving heads, but due to their design, are actually better than any non-water saving type I've used.
I'd opt for the brushed/matte finish if you can, I think the shiny plated finish might flake off after a while.

I went to buy one for my parents and saw they were using “Make Showers Great Again” marketing so, there’s that.
Yeah... On their blog they have some traditionally leftist environmental posts, but that marketing does throw a wrench into things. I'm unsure if they're really hard right or just playing both sides in their marketing.
I figured saving water is ultimately more important, and these guys make going that route the most viable, since many people try a low-flow head become cold or hate the icepick feeling some if them have and go back to their high-flow head. These ones pretty much guarantee anyone I recommend them to will stick with it.

We spent a ridiculous amount on plumbing fixtures though (kitchen and 2 bathrooms), so be prepared for sticker shock. BIFL is the tune I kept whistling though.
Moen? I've replaced the showerheads in pretty much every place I've lived with Moen wands and they've been fine. I don't recommend the magnetic attachment, but the rest are fine.
HammerHead Showers Solid Metal 3-Spray Handheld Shower Head
Around $100 on Amazon. I've had mine for three years and it's been great! The only issue I've encountered is the shower head is too heavy for the holder and keeps falling forward. And it only has three spray settings, mist, regular, and jet. That's not a problem for me but other options have more for less costs (but they're usually plastic).
We've had one from Ana Bath for about 12 years. No issues other than a rubber gasket needed replacing around year 10, which they sent to me at no charge. It was less than $100 on Amazon IIRC.
Maybe buy a shower head from kohler? They are limited lifetime guaranteed.

Being plastic is not the issue - it's the quality of the plastic.
I don't recommend any other brand to my customers than Oras but I'm not sure how easy those are to get in the US.
