Since this morning, if I visit a video, I get a black screen, if I watch from the main page, my screen flickers.

Thanks.

No problems here. Librewolf with uBlock on Linux.
But they often test new "features" selectively in subgroups...

Thanks and yes, *librewolf, ublock, win11

I've been noticing a black screen the video plays add tries to load but can't while page stutters then video

When I visit the actual video I only got the black screen but didn't stay there long enough to notice anything else.

Not completely sure, but even as a paid YouTube Premium subscriber, when I open the website on my laptop (Debian 13, Firefox ESR and uBlock) it consistently takes anywhere from 10-20 seconds to load the page even on my 1gbps home internet while literally every other website loads pretty much instantly. I've been wondering the same thing as you tbh.

Yeah they gave a delay to Linux and/or Adblock users awhile back.

Really? I haven't experienced such delays. I am also on 1gbps and videos start within 1-2 seconds max, usually less. I'm on Devuan Linux, Vivaldi with uBlock Origin.

Someone mentioned it on Lemmy which made me notice it, but on both of my Linux desktops it started happening. 1gbps wired internet, Ubuntu and Debian, Firefox with uBlock. Definite and deliberate 10 second pause when starting a video.

Hmm, I wonder if it's Firefox specific then?

Maybe for the moment.

Just blows my mind that they even delay it for paid users but I guess I'm blocking a lot of tracking stuff too, even without any ads to block

That's just sad, and extremely irritating that it's not prosecutable to users who on boarded before add as bait and switch (same with cable), when they originally sold the product precisely as not having to watch ads.

Additionally, ad time is probably close to content time, ads are not screened, and too often are propaganda. I am noticing media rapidly approaching what Bradbury described in Fahrenheit 451.

Side question here, are there any freetube users that have been having major problems in the last month? All my front end android based YT apps work fine but on desktop freetube keeps throwing up errors.

[–] lka1988@lemmy.dbzer0.com 5 points 2 weeks ago

Google changed something on YouTube recently that broke a lot of 3rd party clients. Sounds like Freetube may not have been patched yet?

Just shooting from the hip.

Congrats, you’re today’s lucky winner in the random draw for youtube to test stuff on. It should be back to normal by tomorrow.

Yes, devs are outstanding with both apps. When I get money I need to show some love.
