they updated the fucking UI and broke some shit probably

[–] ExplosiveLynx@lemmy.world 55 points 1 week ago (2 children)

And in typical fashion, the UI update is fucking awful

[–] scrubbles@poptalk.scrubbles.tech 37 points 1 week ago (1 children)

This whole new version of material is god awful. Makes all my apps look like they're for preschoolers. Marketing and design had to justify themselves again

[–] capuccino@lemmy.world 6 points 1 week ago

It does look like a giant tablet, like "kids will use this anyways"

[–] KaRunChiy@fedia.io 14 points 1 week ago

The transport controls are gigantic now, take up a good chunk of screen real estate whenever u wanna just skim

[–] dumbass@aussie.zone 60 points 1 week ago (4 children)

I thought they finally broke my modded YouTube app.

[–] Waffle@infosec.pub 23 points 1 week ago

I thought my IP had been blocked for using Freetube.

[–] db2@lemmy.world 11 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I had to turn off spoof video streams in miscellaneous, worked right away after that. 20.14.43

[–] dumbass@aussie.zone 7 points 1 week ago

Cheers that worked.

Same here. One of my favorite car content creators started a livestream pretty much right when the outage started. Lots of people in live chat were having issues and couldn't see anything. The UI kept erroring out saying "player outdated".

Birds of a feather....

I bet the outage was some new antiadblock nefariousness they're trying to implement.

[–] Waffle@infosec.pub 10 points 1 week ago

Yeah I think that was the most frustrating part of it being down. The false promise of an ad...

Reading the comments here, they Uno Reversed themselves, blocking official frontend users (official yt app, website, etc.) and allowing unofficial ones (Pipepipe, NewPipe, and some others). Lol. Nice job, guys.

[–] beejboytyson@lemmy.world 6 points 1 week ago (1 children)

These are the guys in charge. Pennywise pound foolish.

[–] thatKamGuy@sh.itjust.works 6 points 1 week ago

Pennywise, you say?

[–] Psythik@lemmy.world 6 points 1 week ago

LOL no wonder why I haven't been having any issues.

[–] OhmsLawn@lemmy.world 15 points 1 week ago (2 children)

It's been acting up a lot over the last day or so. I thought it was my ad block or something.

[–] CaptainBlinky@lemmy.myserv.one 8 points 1 week ago (2 children)

Same, but I tried turning it off to test and there was no change.

[–] expatriado@lemmy.world 15 points 1 week ago (2 children)

did you risk watching an ad? brave

I did it for all of us.

[–] TuxEnthusiast@sopuli.xyz 1 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

is the brave adblocker that good tho?

[–] Waffle@infosec.pub 2 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Wasn't sure if it was my pihole jacking something up

ublock origin here, turns out it was an outage.

[–] Tollana1234567@lemmy.today 1 points 1 week ago

i saw a post on reddit too, they were reporting its youtubes side. maybe YT is trying something to mess with the ads again, or against adblocker.

[–] 1984@lemmy.today 8 points 1 week ago

Oh shit, what about the advertisers and the influencers, will they be ok? /s

Good news, it isn't just you.

[–] deadcream@sopuli.xyz 1 points 1 week ago

Damn you are indeed tough if you managed to break youtube

[–] zecg@lemmy.world 8 points 1 week ago

Pipepipe users did not even notice

[–] cerebralhawks@lemmy.dbzer0.com 8 points 1 week ago (2 children)

YouTube has been absolute dogshit on my Apple TV box, which ironically is the only place I’m not blocking ads. So ads aside I should be getting the best experience… but no. So most of the time I AirPlay my MacBook to my TV and just use Firefox. I mean outside the outage.

It doesn’t outright block ads but it shuts β€˜em up and skips ASAP.

[–] fascicle@leminal.space 2 points 1 week ago

Just sideload smart tube

[–] 01189998819991197253@infosec.pub 7 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

NewPipe. No issues at all.

Edit: autocorrect

[–] quick_snail@feddit.nl 5 points 1 week ago

I didn't notice. YouTube hasn't worked for like a year.

[–] commie@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 1 week ago

I watched the yify rip of boondock saints directors cut. it's back.

[–] finitebanjo@lemmy.world 2 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

I gotta tell you I've got music streaming like 14 hours a day and I didn't notice an outage while using Waterfox and uBlock Origin.
