this looks promising.

  • only 2mb
  • can load icon packs
  • customizable text size & color
  • customizable grid sizes
  • widgets if you care for them (i don't use any)

i use lawnchair because of it's extreme customizability.

Most Android launchers are just forks of AOSP’s Launcher3. I wanted to try something different—building from scratch while welcoming new developers and applying solid coding principles and best practices to keep the project alive for the long run. Open-source Launcher3 forks often end up abandoned because of their complexity, making it tough for newcomers to contribute. And, not gonna lie… a lot of them are still written in Java and rely on legacy APIs.

Meanwhile, many closed-source launchers are starting to get greedy—locking features behind paywalls and sneaking in trackers. My goal is to give everyone the joy of using powerful features without compromising privacy.

This is unfortunate but anyone who speaks Russian will tell you this app name is hilarious.

apparently they're aware of the russian translation 😅 https://github.com/JackEblan

Hi, I’m Jack Eblan 👋

Jack Eblan is just my pseudonym. People told me that Eblan is a Russian word meaning fucking idiot. I actually love the irony because I often feel like one. I’ve always envied people who seem effortlessly smart.

???, I just asked a question.

The launcher is Eblan.

I also use lawnchair but will be watching this one grow!

Does anyone know of any launcher that has a functionality like "covers" in Action Launcher?

Basically, where you can group multiple apps behind one app icon that covers them. Never saw a better approach. Don't use drawer at all anymore. Everything is grouped.

Unfortunately, seems it's not maintained anymore. Still works with latest android, but that won't last.

Currently it's quite buggy but I can see this replacing Nova Launcher for me in the future.

[–] merde@sh.itjust.works 2 points 1 week ago

same here. i installed and will keep updating to see where it goes; when or if it can replace lawnchair

Still using Nova? I stopped using it when Branch bought it, about a year after I bought the paid version.

[–] muhyb@programming.dev 3 points 1 week ago

Yup. Couldn't find any FOSS launcher to replace it. However I have an apk from before the times they got bought, though I also blocked it on the firewall and always used like that anyway. It doesn't get update from Aurora Store too because it's in the blacklist.

"No such app found"

Is this region locked?

[–] merde@sh.itjust.works 1 points 1 week ago

it would be surprising for fDroid to region lock apps. I tried with a browser now and the link works

Lawnchair feels better, but some this is a completely separate project , it’s worth keeping an were on.

[–] illusionist@lemmy.zip 1 points 1 week ago

That is cool! Only folder cover mode keeps me using neo launcher.

Does it work with gestures fluently? I feel most launchers that I test feels really janky with system navigation gestures.
