Got a mate who lives in Singapore stopping over for a couple of nights. I’m working nights so I won’t get to see much of her but it’s great to catch up no matter how briefly.
Installed a water filter under my sink. I now have a third tap which dispenses delicious cold water. My water stinks of chlorine most of the time so it’s such a treat to not be drinking swimming pool water anymore!

I never noticed the chlorine in tap water until I went on holiday somewhere that didn't chlorinate their water supply. When I got back, my water absolutely reeked of chlorine. Just one of those things you get used to I suppose.
If you get sick of it, £70 gets you a full kit which is dead easy to install yourself from uk water filters
Had a call from my daughter to spend a day with her before she moves away for a new job, so I showed her how to responsibly deal with corp. life... by taking a sickie to go shopping with her.

Well, it started with an AWS outage in US-EAST-1. so yea...
Same! For our team we were pretty much dead in the water for a while, so was a rather calm start to the day.
On Monday our IT desk lead literally died. The coincidence is doing my head in
Sadly our ServiceNow hell desk kept working so we still had work to do. 🥲

It's Monday, Captain.
Was supposed to continue bricking up the other half of the wall. Weather was bad and social life was (somewhat blissfully) nonexistent, so I played Project Zomboid for a bit.
You quickly get used to the idea that fighting off a horde with a frying pan is better than using a gun (it just draws more to you). You also get really good at changing, disinfecting, and applying bandages. I wish there was more to the game - but that's it: frying pans and bandages
I think that's basically how it is in real life...

I've got into a right shit habit of getting home, doing a couple of little jobs, and putting the youngest to bed at 8 or 9ish... only to fall asleep with him.
I'll get up at half eleven for an old man piss, and that's me then - I'll go down and chat to the better half for a bit until she gets bored of the telly (and my epic banter) and goes to bed, and I'll be up then until half one or two before going to bed again until 5am.
Net result is that I've been giving it the nodding dog at about half ten in the morning, and taken an early lunch to go out for a run to wake myself up a bit. Nightmare.
I know research suggests that two lots of four hour sleep sessions is better than one eight hour monster, but my god I'd love one right about now!
My sleep's been terrible for ~2 years now... basically got down to stints of 2~3 hours at a time.
It's getting better, but I've been fretting that I need 8 hours (or at least 7.5) in a single block... didn't know about the 4 hour thing.
Got any info on that? (I'll take a look on t'interwebs, but can't trust half the crap on there these days)
As always, context is key. I seem to remember this BBC article discussing it as a sleep tool used generations ago.
It would appear that humans in winter months - when there are fewer hours of daylight - seem to favour splitting into two shorter sleeps with a productive waking period in the middle, where people are now encouraged to do a task (read, do the dishwasher, load the dryer, whatever) before returning to sleep.
It doesn't quite fit my setup there but there are some interesting points raised.

8:30 - 11:30 = 3 hours +
1:30 - 5:00 = 3.5 hours = 6.5 hours
Not the worst to be honest, but you might need to sneak in a few power naps during the day
