Love how the post and comic are about listening to others and don't try to troubleshoot/solve their problem and 15% of people are like "absolutely not".

Community rules (click to expand)
1. Follow the site-wide rules
- Instance-wide TOS: https://legal.lemmy.world/tos/
- Lemmy code of conduct: https://join-lemmy.org/docs/code_of_conduct.html
2. Be civil
- Understand the difference between a joke and an insult.
- Do not harrass or attack users for any reason. This includes using blanket terms, like "every user of thing".
- Don't get baited into back-and-forth insults. We are not animals.
- Leave remarks of "peasantry" to the PCMR community. If you dislike an OS/service/application, attack the thing you dislike, not the individuals who use it. Some people may not have a choice.
- Bigotry will not be tolerated.
3. Post Linux-related content
- Including Unix and BSD.
- Non-Linux content is acceptable as long as it makes a reference to Linux. For example, the poorly made mockery of
sudoin Windows. - No porn, no politics, no trolling or ragebaiting.
4. No recent reposts
- Everybody uses Arch btw, can't quit Vim, <loves/tolerates/hates> systemd, and wants to interject for a moment. You can stop now.
5. π¬π§ Language/ΡΠ·ΡΠΊ/Sprache
- This is primarily an English-speaking community. π¬π§π¦πΊπΊπΈ
- Comments written in other languages are allowed.
- The substance of a post should be comprehensible for people who only speak English.
- Titles and post bodies written in other languages will be allowed, but only as long as the above rule is observed.
6. (NEW!) Regarding public figures
We all have our opinions, and certain public figures can be divisive. Keep in mind that this is a community for memes and light-hearted fun, not for airing grievances or leveling accusations. - Keep discussions polite and free of disparagement.
- We are never in possession of all of the facts. Defamatory comments will not be tolerated.
- Discussions that get too heated will be locked and offending comments removed. Β
Please report posts and comments that break these rules!
Important: never execute code or follow advice that you don't understand or can't verify, especially here. The word of the day is credibility. This is a meme community -- even the most helpful comments might just be shitposts that can damage your system. Be aware, be smart, don't remove France.
Sounds like something that would be fixed by using Linux. Can't reply "use Linux" to you if you're already doing it. And now, the fun begins, because you have an issue, already use Linux, and those smug posters now have to help you, but you can't really tell what a distribution is, or what the message was, and typing commands is really obscure so you're becoming their rock of Sisyphus of online tech support.
Note: the above is an exaggeration of a lot of things. Be mindful of others.
Maybe they were perfectly happy using these OSs before some stupid new feature was introduced
They should know, it's only going to keep getting worse
Too fucking bad. You are not entitled to complain if you refuse to help yourself fix your problem.
Its a hard balance to strike but suggesting linux does actually add something. Linux does not have a marketing team. People need to find out linux is an alternative somehow.
Yeah, the original post gives a false dichotomy. It's possible to sincerely let someone vent about Windows/iOS and also suggest Linux tactfully.
Responding "use Linux noob" on every post isn't helpful. But chatting with a coworker and hearing them out, then sharing about your own experience ("yeah, I finally got so fed up I tried Linux. Turns out it was super easy and I'm glad I switched!") is helpful and adding something.
Whine all you want, doesn't mean I have to listen to it - especially if you're not going to listen to me.
replying with "use Linux" to complaints about iOS is especially funny to me
me omw to install Linux on my iphone
I will keep pestering people who complain about Windows to install OpenSUSE instead.
Ah yes, get everyone's attention by complaining but punish those who try to help. If you wanna complain and not get a solution, do it offline.
I tried switching to Linux twice and both times I got hit with problems I was unable to fix even with help. So, even though I hate Microsoft, I'll stick with Windows for now.
I feel you. Some devices just don't have linux support because Microsoft one way or another owns the company that made the device... Drivers are a bitch.
I think this almost articulates how I feel about the whole thing. Absolutely, the world will be a better place once everyone moves to Linux, but the Linux community sometimes has a hard time with not coming off like pedantic, high horsing assholes.
Not saying there's not great resources or welcoming communities out there, but the just use Linux crowd doesn't look like any fun.
Yep, but if you complain and try NOTHING else what do you expect people to answer with?
If i answer with "try linux" i do it for helping you, also, you can ignore my reply too and go on, sometimes i even get insults or mockery for answering questions about Linux, i don't get why people need to be rude about this.
Sorry for the rant
You know what? That's a fair point. After all, if they're happily running Linux they're no one's problem. If they're unhappily running Windows, they're Microsoft's problem.
And I like Microsoft experiencing problems.
If you want to complain about your OS but are not open for alternatives then don't post your complaint. You are not adding anything
This just reeks of right wing anti-intellectualism. People actually offering solutions are vilified because they're sometimes rude or annoying. Grow up, and learn to ignore people you want to ignore. Not everyone will bow down to your whims. You wanna complain, fine, some will respond with solutions. If you don't want that, ignore them. It's not very hard.
You are not adding anything.
