I've seen a lot of posts by people saying that the way you feel doesn't change after high school. The way I feel in a very abstract way like the conscious experience that I have has changed even in the past couple of years. I feel like I've been able to have more abstract thoughts in recent years.

A "Showerthought" is a simple term used to describe the thoughts that pop into your head while you're doing everyday things like taking a shower, driving, or just daydreaming. The most popular seem to be lighthearted clever little truths, hidden in daily life.
Here are some examples to inspire your own showerthoughts:
- Both “200” and “160” are 2 minutes in microwave math
- When you’re a kid, you don’t realize you’re also watching your mom and dad grow up.

If you made it this far, showerthoughts is accepting new mods. This community is generally tame so its not a lot of work, but having a few more mods would help reports get addressed a little sooner.
Whats it like to be a mod? Reports just show up as messages in your Lemmy inbox, and if a different mod has already addressed the report, the message goes away and you never worry about it.

Idk, I feel pretty different, haha. From a biopsychosocial perspective, children are definitely not "small adults". Will we all have some love for whimsy and at times have emotional tantrums and fight against responsibility? Sure, but when I was a kid I never ever saw excesses in these areas as shortcomings, but as an adult I definitely do...
maturity leaves a scar in your brain to teach you a lesson.
We all started playing a massive game of pretend, where we all pretend to be the adults we saw when we were kids. You cant stop playing, theres bills to pay.
not knowing where things come from is innocence. the burden of knowledge is the responsibility to create what's gone, and to share that burden.
..and toys more expensive.
I can't believe other than my computer, PS5 and VR headset, the most expensive toy I have is a silicone horse cock.

We never stop being kids.
And we never fully become adults, in a sense. For there's always room to grow, people & situations to understand, things and perspectives to learn about, and further maturity to be reached.
i think kids should be allowed to vote. from the moment we're born, we should have a say. we have adults that act like crybabies anyways, so it balances out.
We already have an enormous problem of completely unqualified voters being able to vote, so let's not make it even worse. (in the States, anyway)
ive given this A LOT of dwell time and thought, and i think we're both partially right and wrong.
even when the negatives outweigh the positives, some things are worth doing. every solution is just accounting for as many of the things that can go wrong as we can imagine. but even when things go wrong, we can always fix it. your democracy has gone wrong, and it isn't enough to just point out the things going wrong. you have to fix it too.
There's also practical application and real-world effect to consider. Giving kids the vote wouldn't help the situation, and in fact wouldn't happen anyway, even if the last remaining legit party was in charge, here.
Now in theory, if you wanted to set up some kind of voting application test to see how well the potential voter was familiar with real facts & reality, allowing them to vote if they passed, then that might indeed be an argument for lowering the voting age. In fact, it almost would have saved democracy in the 2016 election, as I alluded to above.
The only difference between men and boys is the size of their toys.

edit: sober afterthought, idk why i said "i'll let" if it isn't mine. and a problem is access; everyone isn't on the moon. so even if i'm the one that liberates what's been imprisoned, i still need to let it go; the giving is what is mine, and the gift is freedom.
Today is my birthday and this is very much how I feel about growing older. It's not at all what I thought it would be.
