Community rules (click to expand)

1. Follow the site-wide rules

2. Be civil
  • Understand the difference between a joke and an insult.
  • Do not harrass or attack users for any reason. This includes using blanket terms, like "every user of thing".
  • Don't get baited into back-and-forth insults. We are not animals.
  • Leave remarks of "peasantry" to the PCMR community. If you dislike an OS/service/application, attack the thing you dislike, not the individuals who use it. Some people may not have a choice.
  • Bigotry will not be tolerated.
  • 3. Post Linux-related content
  • Including Unix and BSD.
  • Non-Linux content is acceptable as long as it makes a reference to Linux. For example, the poorly made mockery of sudo in Windows.
  • No porn, no politics, no trolling or ragebaiting.
  • 4. No recent reposts
  • Everybody uses Arch btw, can't quit Vim, <loves/tolerates/hates> systemd, and wants to interject for a moment. You can stop now.
  • 5. πŸ‡¬πŸ‡§ Language/язык/Sprache
  • This is primarily an English-speaking community. πŸ‡¬πŸ‡§πŸ‡¦πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ
  • Comments written in other languages are allowed.
  • The substance of a post should be comprehensible for people who only speak English.
  • Titles and post bodies written in other languages will be allowed, but only as long as the above rule is observed.
  • 6. (NEW!) Regarding public figuresWe all have our opinions, and certain public figures can be divisive. Keep in mind that this is a community for memes and light-hearted fun, not for airing grievances or leveling accusations.
  • Keep discussions polite and free of disparagement.
  • We are never in possession of all of the facts. Defamatory comments will not be tolerated.
  • Discussions that get too heated will be locked and offending comments removed.

Please report posts and comments that break these rules!

Important: never execute code or follow advice that you don't understand or can't verify, especially here. The word of the day is credibility. This is a meme community -- even the most helpful comments might just be shitposts that can damage your system. Be aware, be smart, don't remove France.

    Which one are you?

Oh nice try government, I won't fingerprint myself in a public comment like some kind of sucker 😏

Unless you're behind like seven proxies, you're already fuckered.

Can relate. Signal is luckily mainstream enough to bring some people in after some convincing.

    [–] tasinone@social.vivaldi.net 1 points 2 years ago

@Killercat103 @treadful I also do the same. But Siganl devs are kinda weird.

I've wanted to meet FSF member in real life for a long time. No luck so far.

As for Stallman, I find it sad that he has been right about many things. I will not do what he does but I appreciate the fact that someone like him exists and still fights for what he believes in.

This made me laugh more than it probably should

i'm definetly newborn paranoid, but i actually belive opera and opera GX are great browsers nowdays

    [–] spaceguy@lemmy.world 1 points 2 years ago

Definitely tech conservative. I’m aware of all the problems with big tech and closed source software but I’m not going to jump through major hoops to make sure I’m adhering to Stallman’s principles.

    [–] jacktherippah@lemmy.world 1 points 2 years ago

I'm in the same boat. I feel like going any further than Newborn Paranoid and you start sacrificing so much of your time, money and convenience it's not worth it anymore.

    [–] ralC@lemmy.fmhy.ml 1 points 2 years ago

Between conservative and newborn paranoid. I use Fedora and Firefox, but (microg) LineageOS and F-Droid on my phone. Also I don't know what half of those apps are but I'd like to use matrix.

    [–] skillissuer@lemmy.world 1 points 2 years ago

you want somebody to admit that they were tech paranoid? nice try, luminescent americans

    [–] shotgun_crab@lemmy.world 1 points 2 years ago

Tech conservative for the most part. I prefer FOSS, but I'm fine with using some propietary software

    [–] marcos@lemmy.world 1 points 2 years ago

What's the problem with e-books? Even more the ones you download into your computer and open with okular or some emacs e-pub mode?

(Anyway, I don't know what half of those icons are.)

    [–] PabloPicasshole@lemmy.world 1 points 2 years ago

Tech Conservative here but don't 100% agree with the icons shown. Everyone has their own needs and reasons to be the way they are and that's ok.

    [–] HRDS_654@lemmy.world 0 points 2 years ago

I'm a tech normie conservative. Apparently.

    [–] MooseBoys@lemmy.world 0 points 2 years ago (1 children)

I spend 95% of my day on Debian but I don’t like it. Definitely β€œTech Normie” according to this guide.

    [–] codyofficial@lemmy.world 1 points 2 years ago

Honestly, I know it may not feel like it, but any linux usage, or even an understanding of what linux is, pretty much knocks you out of tech normie territory. One of us! One of us!

Newborn Paranoid 100%. I both fear and desire the slippery slope. Also, what's the browser next to LibreWolf?

    [–] Armando3996@lemm.ee 1 points 2 years ago

It's qutebrowser, kind of like a more "suckless" fork of chromium. Also got an adblocker built-in, which is basically just a hosts file but for qutebrowser.
