That’s exactly why I moved to lemmy

[–] Caboose@lemmy.ml 4 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Same here but because of Sync.

[–] Vlixz@lemmy.ml 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Sync is officially shutting down too? /:

I had bought the premium version 8 years ago for just like ~$3-5. that was such a great deal. i loved the ui and how smooth it worked. they never integrated all those new awards. it was just nice and clean.

RIP RIF. it's the end of an era.

seeing that message yesterday sent me through all 5 stages of grief. after about an hour of that, I made an account here.

cheers to new beginnjngs

[–] Fin@lemmy.ml 6 points 2 years ago

sad day, RIP

[–] Kouran@mander.xyz 6 points 2 years ago

The only way I've enjoyed Reddit in Android, for almost 10 years. Rip RIF.

[–] ToastyWaffles@lemmy.ml 5 points 2 years ago

Relay dev said the same thing. It's like even if I wanted to use Reddit on mobile, I can't because the main app is literally unusable.

We'll probably see a lot of traffic to Lemmy by then. Hope the servers are ready to handle an influx.

I’m here because Apollo is shutting down… it was too good to last

[–] LesserEvil@lemmy.world 8 points 2 years ago

Saw the post about Apollo yesterday. This is my first post on Lemmy, today.

[–] Zifnab25@lemmy.ml 7 points 2 years ago

Solidarity.

[–] cowleggies@reddthat.com 16 points 2 years ago (1 children)

I really really hate to see Apollo go, but at the same time, I hope other Reddit app devs follow suit. Absolute trash way that Reddit is treating not only their devs, but users too.

[–] Relected@sh.itjust.works 14 points 2 years ago

it was infinity for me :(

Saw this notification yesterday when I opened the App. I guess I’m deleting my Reddit account that day. It really is a shame—it was such a good app, and the developer seems like such a chill person.

[–] Tristar500@lemmy.ml 7 points 2 years ago (1 children)

I have a feeling we'll see Apollo, the Lemmy edition soon enough.

[–] TragicNotCute@lemmy.world 1 points 2 years ago

Oh I really hope

i do have to wonder why pelosi was added to the meme 🤔

[–] kunday@lemmy.ml 6 points 2 years ago

Long time Reddit user; new Lemmy user. 14 years to be precise. I'm already loving how good the community is and how positive the content is without all them bots. I'll do my best to contribute!

[–] Disgusted_Tadpole@lemmy.ml 6 points 2 years ago

Fucking hell, I was so depressed when I opened the app to see this message.

[–] ritchie@lemmy.one 6 points 2 years ago (1 children)

RIP. I really enjoyed using it while I actively used my iPhone. I guess RedReader will end up the same.

[–] qprimed@lemmy.ml 1 points 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago) (2 children)

RedReader user here. hoping that they switch over to lemmy, but thats a fair bit of dev time (would be happy to donate if thats the path they take). in any event, the fediverse is my new home and I am more than good with what I have seen so far.

[–] ritchie@lemmy.one 3 points 2 years ago (1 children)

RedReader dev says that they were allowed to operate free because of the accessibity they provide.

[–] qprimed@lemmy.ml 2 points 2 years ago

yes, it looks like RedReader gets a stay of execution for now - thats good for the short term. the RR dev has indicated that the medium term path forward is to include Lemmy as an endpoint for RR. that is going to really interesting.

[–] ritchie@lemmy.one 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

On android I am using redreader too and liked the minimalistic approach very much.

[–] qprimed@lemmy.ml 2 points 2 years ago

exactly. it a beautifully simple and perfectly functional app. pretty much the only thing that made Reddit tolerable.

[–] MisterMonday@lemmy.ml 5 points 2 years ago

This was the line for me. Apollo had great tools and filters which made Reddit usable. Even bearable. I can't be bothered to wade through the swamp without it.

[–] notExactlyI20@lemmy.ml 4 points 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago)

F for Apollo. 3rd party user here. As long as they pull the plug on 3rd party apps, Reddit is dead and buried for me.

[–] jezebelley@lemmy.ml 4 points 2 years ago (1 children)

I literally just bought an iPhone with a large part of that decision being the ability to use Apollo. I'm absolutely devastated. That app is a hardware seller. It's the iOS equivalent of a Zelda title on a Nintendo console.

[–] TragicNotCute@lemmy.world 3 points 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago)

My first though was “really? No way” and then I thought about how much I use and love Apollo. Yeah, I get it now.

[–] Tavirez@beehaw.org 3 points 2 years ago

I will miss Apollo! I will go support Pixel Pals and give Christian my money that way.

[–] Hajin@lemmy.ml 2 points 2 years ago

I don't even use Apollo because I don't have iphone but rip because all third party app is gonna go down if Reddit don't change

[–] Yahhas@lemmy.ml 1 points 2 years ago

I'll be deleting my account once the third party apps stop working.
