It just started and we're still in off season so might as well. I think Germany has the perfect group to embarrass themselves too should they not make it out of groups stage.

There are eight first-time qualifiers at this tournament: Morocco, Zambia, Panama, Haiti, Vietnam, the Philippines, Portugal and Ireland

I'm definitely watching the World Cup -- I just got back from the pub where I was watching New Zealand beat Norway. I've been trying to get !worldcup@lemmy.world going for the World Cup so that people who want to talk about it have a space that's dedicated to the tournament, so if you wanna come hang out over there as well, it might be fun!

US here, just so happened to wake up at 2:30am, just in time to catch the first match. Might as well lol.

I am, even though my post about it yesterday got removed. I like that Fox is showing full replays online, it helps Americans deal with the timezone issue.

For some games it's also crazy in Europe, for example first game tomorrow is at 4:30 am. 😅 Think I might skip that one

I'm definitely watching. The first match just finished. So happy for New Zealand. It's always fun when the hosts have success in their tournament.

YES! I found this community because I was looking for where discussions about it on Lemmy might be. (Other Lemmy community suggestions are very welcome). The time zone difference does complicate things, so I probably won't catch many of the games in the time slot that is latest for me. There's still plenty of great matches to watch beside those though.

US here. Heck yeah! I'm pumped. I watch it every time.

[–] MrDrProfJimmy@lemm.ee 5 points 2 years ago

Hyped as hell for this

[–] jimbolauski@kbin.social 5 points 2 years ago

With the time difference there will only be a handful of games that I'll be awake for.

[–] Mookulator@wirebase.org 5 points 2 years ago (1 children)

I’m watching when I’m awake! USA going for the three-peat and boasting some fresh new talent. Sophia Smith is gonna put this tournament on watch.

[–] los_chill@programming.dev 1 points 2 years ago

I'm also here for Rapinoe's swan song. Super hyped for this tournament.

I am. Australia's about to beat Ireland, 5min of bonus time left, but they might not be able to hold

[–] narrowide96lochkreis@lemmy.world 4 points 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago)

Yay, they made it. Second home country wins their first game too.

Also, I'm totally checking out the communities on aussie.zone now.

[–] SatouKazuma@lemmy.world 5 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Negative. Time difference to Aus/NZ is just too much.

[–] Coelacanth@feddit.nu 2 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Same. The games are actually available as VODs on Viaplay, but it's just not as exciting to watch after the fact. I might still watch some Sweden games that way though, and maybe the semi-finals and the final.

[–] SatouKazuma@lemmy.world 1 points 2 years ago

I think I'm just going to chalk this one myself. I'd try to watch Sweden and Japan, but for a lot of the world, the time zones are just shit. Maybe next iteration...

[–] Boondock@lemmy.world 3 points 2 years ago

I’m watching, but on dvr. I’m in the US and have 2 young kids so only way to watch for me is to watch on dvr during the workday.

Other than US matches, I should be able to avoid spoilers from friends which is only way I’d get spoiled

[–] yessikg@lemmy.blahaj.zone 3 points 2 years ago

I am, who needs sleep anyway

[–] raresbears@iusearchlinux.fyi 3 points 2 years ago

Trying to, although with the time difference and with my schedule I probably won't be able to catch that many especially in the earlier stages

[–] zauri27@kbin.social 1 points 2 years ago

timezone was not as bad as expected.so hoping to catch some game for sure (all night to overnight times for me)

[–] dogslayeggs@lemmy.world 1 points 2 years ago

I'm going to try to catch some of the games. I usually watch a couple games of the WWC and always the final.

[–] c4lm@lemmy.world 1 points 2 years ago

I'm in the UK, match times aren't great for me.

I'm going to try catch some simply because there's nothing else atm.

[–] willnever_fadeaway@lemm.ee 1 points 2 years ago

Of course I am, my country is making history as one of the WC debutants. An unfortunate loss to Switzerland but it was a good game.
