Jesus, that's heartbreaking. Her quote makes it sound like he passed before the game started.

He passed on Friday, so she wasn't told ahead of the game deliberately.

Honestly kinda horrible thing to do to her, though I guess it's not like she coulda done something about it — I'd've wanted to go home and visit one last time though.

The story said he'd been dealing with a lengthy illness. It would be hard to know who made the decision and what she thought about it. I can imagine everything from a straight up cynical blackout from the RFEF, to her having discussed it with him before the tournament, and anything in between.

Honestly, given it's the RFEF and everything that's happened so far, I'd assume the worst.

Yeah I guess I can see the good will behind it but I would've wanted to known asap.

That's horrible. I can't imagine what she's going through. Some of the highest highs and lowest lows one can go through at the same time.

Could she have saved him? No.

Could she even have traveled fast enough to be with him? No.

Could she even have communicated with him before he died? No.

He had been fighting an illness for a long time according to the article that few people in here read. To me sounds like it wasn't something that he contracted that morning and he died hours later suddenly. He had the illness long before this game was planned. And she knew he was ill. But in a world that is constantly looking for controversies and drama, some people completely unconnected to this story are going to demonize the coaches and team owners and stuff like that.

For all we know, the father wanted it this way so as to let her focus on the game that must have meant so much. Not that football is more important but rather that he knew she could grieve his passing after the game. I like to think of it that way, at least.

Before we crucify anyone for not notifying her do we know what her wishes were? Was Carmona upset that she wasn't notified?
