I'm glad to hear that and I hope for better days for you!

And agreed iteration is a big part of improvement. Trying to do as many as I can before I'm able to do my next live session. With luck the next model I paint will actually look like them.

Thank you, I'm trying!

Thank you! I'm feeling pretty good about his left eye though 🤣

That's the biggest thing I saw when I painted it but decided not to try to change it with a filter or repaint it. But yeah it's for sure a big difference.

I think so too!

Clearly I can, but can I get his expression right? I think this is the closest to the expression in the reference yet. Not quite right but I'm not sure what isn't right about it. I think it's in his lips but I've redone them a few times and am no closer. Feedback?

Also I love love love how his beard turned out. I saw a YouTube saying don't try to paint each individual hair and paint shapes that feel like hair, it was mind blowing to me.

And clearly you can tell which image got the most votes in the other post.

Edit: Also my workflow is getting much better. I spent less time on this than the first several I did with way better results. I'm able to see shapes and pick out colors I just couldn't even see before.

Looks amazing, I love the colors on the mountains!

Thank you! I didn't think I'd improve this quickly. I figured hundreds of paintings not a dozen to get here.

One day I'll be able to capture expressions as the essence of a person as well as you do.

You're absolutely right, thank you!

Thought I'd ask for a vote on which Nick Fury y'all think I should paint. I think I'm ready to try this iconic character. Vote on as many or few as you'd like, feel free to add your own for others to vote on. I'm planning to start painting Friday morning mountain time.

Twelve paintings in and I still hear his voice in my head. OHHH, you believe in Samuel L. Jackson now, huh, bitch? GOOD, 'CAUSE YOU 'BOUT TO MEET HIM!

I particularly enjoy the scarf. That was my favorite part to paint.

I'm trying to do something a little more stylized. Please provide criticism!

Hang onto your butts! Because I think I still can. The expression isn't quite right yet. It's amazing how the tiniest little bits completely change an entire expression. He looks more worried and less annoyed than he should. But it's totally Samuel L. Jackson!!!

Drew all of these the year Predator 2 came out I think, so 1990 or so.

Hell yes I can! I think this is the closest likeness yet. His expression is really close but not quite right. The eyes though, that's my favorite part. I used a completely different process and it worked much better for me! The whole painting was nearly finished but no eyes, pretty much just closed eyelids. Then I started painting on the eyes and it helped me a ton.

It's a good painting, technically one of the best yet. But the face isn't right. I've reworked it multiple times and it's still not right. I'm ready to move on to my next Sammy. The suit was a blast to paint!

It's been a year since I decided to invest in myself in art. Started with buying a PC connected tablet (pictured) and within a month or so getting a phone that comes with a pen. The phone has made a world of difference as it eliminated the barriers between my busy life and art. Join a conference call early, draw. Waiting at the doctor's office, draw. Watching something with my wife that she enjoys but I'm not excited about, draw.

Totally worth it and the art I've made on this little phone sometimes gets close to artists I admire and have wish I could be like.

If you're thinking you want to get better at art maybe eliminate barriers and do your art daily.

If you're a reader, the book Atomic Habits has a ton of great ideas. It's what inspired me to get the tablet and then the phone.

Fuck yeah I can!!! I'm so excited to share this one! I'm doing tippy taps y'all!

For whatever reason I can't upload a full resolution version so here is a Mastadon link with it.

My favorite scene from my favorite movie of all time! Say what again!

Did I capture his likeness well enough?

No, not as good as I want to be. But I think this one is pretty good. Looking back I think the first one looks the closest so maybe I'm trying too hard?

Though coming from never painting a real person before I'm pretty happy overall.

Droporain (no idea how to tag people) asked for a young Sammy. This is him! Sort of, he's probably in his 40s here.
