Janelle Monae crushes it in her role. I mean absolutely crushes it. In it she is acting in the role of a character acting in a role, which is actually really hard to do in a really satisfying way, and she absolutely pulls it off. What's more is that she lets the veil slip just enough, as an actress, for the character playing the role to be believable as an actress. Like her music and visual artistry as an R&B performer is incredible, but there's still a part of me that feels like the world lost something from her not going into acting. But if she had, she'd probably have put out an album that would make me lament she hadn't focused on R&B.

Yup. We can't vote for the best possible outcome until our voting system lets us. Now we might never get the chance in my lifetime. The goal needed to be to vote in the best possible outcome candidate (the lesser of two evils in a binary choice election) and keep advocating for election reform. But instead we're here, with the eviler of two evils in a binary choice election, and the possibility we'll never get to vote again.

my family has been in the united states for ~140 years. before i left instagram i would pretty regularly get death threats in my DMs. the one that stood out most to me said "go back where you came from before i send you back in a pine box, kike"

it was just so dumb. but also indicative of what it can be like for me to move around sometimes. people threaten me with violence for existing from time to time. when you live like that you learn who's willing to listen and who's in their current state unreachable. so yeah. if you're not hearing something from the Jewish community, it's probably because the Jewish community you want to hear from doesn't trust you for some reason. you don't surround yourself with a pocket of safety and so we distance ourselves from you.
