While it seems like the common stance in American culture (to which I belong) is that the Nazi Evil and the Holocaust positively were uniquely evil and should be distinguished against other crimes against humanity.

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Holocaust_uniqueness_debate

However, I am willing to take the position that this might be American propaganda that focuses the American populace on the Nazis, blinding them to the other atrocities that have occurred in the modern age. Some of this might be because many US History classes end their curriculums at the end of WWII, and so modern history after that isn't really taught. That lasting impression could explain cultural permanence.

I do tend to agree with you though. I think the Nazis were evil and did evil shit, but after reflecting on it, it is possible to think of today's Zionists and "modern Nazis", as one might towards other authoritarian, totalitarian regimes.

So yeah. You're right

He has gone to protests! And rallies!

In recent memory, he's attended pro Palestinian protests in Chicago, showcased nonprofits trying to help those in squalor in Skid Row, Los Angeles, and marched/striked in solidarity with SAG-AFTRA workers. More recently, he's done real world journalism by speaking to imprisoned peoples that populate firefighting forces in California. That story was especially potent because of the fires that happened recently in Los Angeles.

In all instances, he's brought his 30,000-strong Twitch audience and casted the spotlight on local leaders that can speaker better to the issues at hand. I think him bringing awareness to these things, in addition to him covering the news, definitely gets overlooked by many people that already have a preconception of him.

Now it all makes sense!

Same. I think the initial outburst was understandable, but at some point I think it's better to correct the record with facts and truths. Else we just shout into echo chambers as interlocutors block each other, further insulating and isolating society.

While I think the initial style of attack by OC was warranted given the content matter, I do agree with you. At some point there needs to be a check to see if the interlocutor has good faith or not, and if so, to offer education and try to dispel myths or lies.

Bro... Not historical Nazis? You mean the ones that committed the most despicable evils in all of humanity's written history?

No. All Nazis can be grouped together and judged the same, not as individuals. They lost that right as soon as they started being intolerant.

Oh you're asking if she could relatively conceive of what life would be like without her in it, especially to her family and friends. If she had that level of mindfulness and could pre-meditate the consequences.

I mean, she was 11. And even fully grown adults can barely know what the consequences of their actions will be, so I doubt this was ever something considered.

It was probably a combination of short-term pain felt by herself and shame felt towards her family that led to the breaking point. Makes me dissociate just thinking about this story

Hi! First time posting on Lemmy actually.

I've changed the headline. Can I leave my blurb about it too, or do I need to delete that and pull straight from the article?

Current affairs magazine Slate reports on the Leftist movement's political equivalent of Joe Rogan: Hasan "Abi" Piker. Slate elaborates on Piker's origins to the political commentary space, substantiates his trials and tribulations with becoming one of the most well known, well paid, hottest socialists, and proposes Piker's no holds barred approach to advocating for the working class American as the Democratic Party's new platform in wake of the humiliating 2024 General Election.

Consider reading if you aren't familiar with Hasan! He's opened my eyes to a world outside of Capitalism that has helped me better understand open source technologies like FOSS software, and the kinds of systems that inevitably lead to closed source technologies falling apart that serve no one, charging a fortune in return.
