I agree with more than half. Probably. And I’m not going to be pedantic and pretend like “everyone” means literally 100% of the population.

But “everyone” is still a strong word, and we have SO many people who have been conditioned their entire lives to equate material wealth with admirable people and lives well lived. They might be jealous of the rich, but it’s the same way they might be jealous of a professional athlete or a rock star. It’s not “fuck that guy,” it’s “I want to be that guy.”

If Trump’s incompetence in executing Vlad’s grand vision saves Ukraine, and his chaotic bumbling at home collapses our government in such spectacular fashion that we look more like modern Europe in a decade, I will obviously be happy about it but I will also be so annoyed.

He would not be the Trump we deserve, he would be the Forrest Magoo that we need.

Criticizing and even insulting awful people is hardly dehumanizing. Notice how I just called them people?

But, I don't know, maybe calling large swaths of people vermin, or saying they're poisoning the blood of our country, or even just rounding them up and shipping them off to some place they do not know because they're the wrong skin tone? Well that would be pretty shitty.

I mean, they also intentionally planned ahead to be in the same room with Bannon in the first place, to give him attention and listen to whatever “good” news he had to say.

Any sounds of people getting angry at the salute should only illustrate the incredible ignorance we’re dealing with in this country. Blame it on stupidity, or hate, or indoctrination & conditioning, whatever you want. It’s all accurate to certain degrees depending on the individual.

I heard our respect is way up with both the KKK AND the Illinois Nazis.

I could tell you why I would choose to stay where I am even if I had the resources to leave. It is actually possible for some of us to put together a decent life for our families and try to brighten the lives of those around us.

…Even though our government is somewhere between evil and self-destruct, and our culture is somewhere between “fuck you got mine” and “die woman/jew/brown/LGBT+/other!”

And yeah I’m a straight white dude, how did you guess? :/

But anyway, I’ve lived in the same house for 17 years. It is a 10 minute walk to the elementary/middle school my son will attend for the next 5 years. It is a 6 minute drive to the office for the best job I’ve ever had. We are active in our community and school district, and have some wonderful friends. All my son’s grandparents are within a reasonable drive (but not too close). All my nieces and nephews are similarly close by.

It’s a small modest house that we’ve made our own. In the past 5 years we’ve done some major renovations, repairs, and remodeling. We fenced in the back yard which is great for our kid and our multiple dogs. And our tortoise. Oh yeah, we’re animal lovers. And that includes a koi pond that I built in the back yard that’s literally part of my mental health self-care.

Moving to some place that seems less insane right now would materially change my entire life, not just which government I have to live under.

Jfc. Unbelievable. Well, very believable. Scumbags.

Well, if I lived in the world of American liberals and conservatives I was taught about growing up, the game would be over the moment fusion power became cheap, and everybody would be happy.

In the real world though? We’ll wait way too long, then get excited when it finally starts to happen, and then right before The Big Day some smooth brained asshole will blow up part of the reactor or fly a plane into the facility or something.

Yeah, just like all that anti-white sentiment towards the US because we elected a president who almost passes for off-white.

Though I suppose there could be other reasons if we dig deep enough.

It's like he was told to do it in order to take attention away from whichever part of the government is being dismantled today, and he just wasn't 100% sure it was the right tactic at the time.

Short and quick, followed by a smile and a nod to what I assume was approval from the audience.
