So company manufacturing it can make more money with monopoly. Also it had military relevance, if your enemies copy this shit … yout get air-raided. The family holding secret knowledge on this was "Weinling". Later germans found out on this smh and knitted them in a 7 layer pattern.

The method of preparing and making gas-tight joins in the skins was known only to a family called Weinling, from the Alsatia London area. The sheets were joined together and folded into impermeable layers

Also German-empire had unreliable access to colonies that produced rubber or cotton during ww1. So they used cow gut as a rubber-balloon replacement.

Layers where sewn in secret alternating patterns to make it airtight.

TIL: madagascar has a higher population density than Sahara.

… yes they used cow gut/intestines πŸ„πŸ„. 7 layers of cow gut where sewn onto a carrier layer of fabric to create an airtight balloon that could hold hydrogen lifting gas for some days 🎈. 50.000 cows where slaughtered for one gas-cell

Advantages over rubber of cow gut:

  • rubber-cotton balloons got brittle with repeated uses with hydrogen filling. Cow gut is a flexible material that lasted longer, though expensive.
  • rubber balloons can get statically charged. A small spark can flame all the hydrogen at once. Cattle gut does not charge as quickly as rubber.

I would try, but I will need to buy some storage (terrabytes) And it will need some time to compute.

The guy who made this map of reddit let it run on amazon cloud compute, his smiliarity mapping algorithm was quite expensive.

Yep the clustering into groups is an automated process with technical faults (it does not get semantics always correct, but it offers a good first overview).

The fact that blender is in AI land indicates most reddit users commenting on blender also comment on AI.

honestly the US military airforce has crazy technology, this meme was an attempt to hint at the extreme contrast: competence of the airforce vs. the awkward/un-normal actions of their commander in chief.

Random slots, where random posts (age/upvote count does not matter) are introduced and marked as such could help in such a problem without complex systems.

The proportion of these random slots could be a user-setting.

Something similar to this: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Random Does this exist in lemmy (backend) api?

πŸ’€ rip. Death in this depth must have been instant, since the hydrostatic water pressure is so high at this depth.

Released by the US coastguard, at approximately 900 miles distance from the event.

I would love info/data-sheets about all the instances, that would make the decision process easier:

  • who de-federated who?
  • who hosts most content related to topic X?
  • number of users and their distribution of joined communities
  • posts/second average user activity …

What I like to cook recently (I know it sounds disgusting): Tomato-sauce mixed with raw eggs and little cheese bits. Add spaghetti πŸπŸ‘Œ

Drive with a train from China to Turkey, as this article claims a rail-link exist since 2020. You will just have to …

  • pass through some of the most sanctioned countries on earth (either Iran or russia)
  • I assume: go through some gauge change πŸ›€οΈ
  • pass through countries that hate each other if you want to sell to europe for a profit (Turkey vs. Greece, Russia vs. Ukraine)
  • trust on each of the N nations the rail passes through to not increase tariffs/fees until it gets unprofitable

Lmao, do you think that can be a success?
