Speed cameras are very common in the UK and while they don't eliminate speeding altogether, they are effective.

Apart from the risk of either a fine, doing a 'speed awareness' course or losing your license, it also means that people who are driving too fast regardless are more likely to simply get stuck behind other drivers who are observing the speed limit.

Also have a look at Jami. You can use it for calls and sharing files.

I have a smartphone and a small dumbphone - one for work stuff and one for play. I have glued velcro to the backs of them, so they can be like one phone in my pocket. Ultimate flexibility.

Yeah, that's pretty much what I'm doing at the moment (haven't quite got to door-to-door though - maybe it will come to that). Those are some good ideas for locations for placing ads - thanks. I'm out of that headspace and need to get back in it!

I can't help noticing how much work is coming in to my peers from instagram though. I'm getting the impression that it has become the standard medium/conduit for professionals.

Last time Ilooked they had something called Nextpush or somesuch. Is it that or something new?

Me too. I'm sure it's fine but someone should pop a message to the developers about it.

You should be able to do it via USB too if you allow data transfer in USB settings on Android when you plug it into your Debian machine. Also Syncthing. I've been doing it these ways for years. No hacking needed.

How do I make money - self-employed - without using corporate social media?

I was coasting along on an extremely minimal income and I embraced an ethical position of using only privacy-compatible technology.

I subsequently had a wonderful little person come into my life who has made me want to have more material capability & flexilibilty. And so I have turned to trying to sell my skills again.

By refusing to use to use corporate social media to promote my services, I am handicapping myself in getting work.

I also struggle to bring myself to cooperate with powers which are working to undermine my child's opportunity to have a good life.

Would appreciate your thoughts

I use Musify from F-droid for what your describing.

To be honest though I only really listen to my offline collection and radio/internet radio for discovering new music.

Check out The Indie Beat. It's an internet radio station playing music from artists on the Fediverse, like Radio Free Fedi used to. All my favourite discoveries from the last couple of years have been by or via Fedi artists.

What is your apptracker?

I think almost any popular DSLR from the last 10–15 years, combined with the sort of zoom lens that you've already mentioned will be a sufficient choice for a newcomer.

Just make sure that it's in good working order if buying used and if you have a choice look for one with a lower shutter count. Another thing I'd suggest is to get something where you'll still be able to use your lenses if/when you upgrade.

I think if I were you I would get the Nikon D3300, 35mm 1.8 (nice background blur for close subjects i.e portraits) and a cheap kit lens.

You can also save money by ditching the Adobe suite and using Rawtherapee, ART or Darktable to process your raw image files and GIMP for the rest of your editing. These are all fantastic pieces of photography software.

Have a great time shooting in Paris!
