These fucking headlines.

Hey LA Times, how about

“Air Force conducts routine unarmed test launch of ballistic missile”

or something similar that doesn’t make me panic and think “wtf have these circus clowns done now?” Plenty of “shit-your-pants” scary headlines happening just now, no need to make up new ones just for the clicks.

This. That the Times has the balls to call this out now is really something.

Nice!

FYI there is also the https://madeinca.ca/ site which lists Canadian made and produced products in a variety of categories.

The ability to leverage both barcode scanning and some solid reference sites for products would be an excellent combo! Maybe a crossover episode is in the works…

I was looking at Proton for mail and calendar right around the time the Andy thing kicked off. I hadn’t yet pulled the trigger on Proton due to their fairly high pricing. I ultimately decided on Tuta for mail and calendar, and I have no issues using their native/desktop apps. I am still forwarding everything from my Gmail account as I slowly work through changing my email on key services. So far so good.

The one issue I had with Tuta is no ability to import mail unless you are at the highest priced tier. I’m on the middle one so no import. What I did instead was just download a copy of my Gmail to an MBOX file, and I have that on my desktop and access it with Thunderbird (read only) as needed. This was fine for me as I don’t have much mail of significance.

Switching was a small action, but one that made me feel immediately better, like I did something concrete in opposition to the rapidly enshittifying tech universe.

Thanks for the recommendation. What domain do you use for your email address, if you don’t mind my asking? Sounds like there are country codes available, but I’m not sure how relevant they would be to the address.

What legal jurisdiction do they operate in? I see German and English versions of their site but nothing in About Us on jurisdiction.

I have been mulling over Posteo for encrypted mail. Looks like a lot of the same benefits as mailbox.org, but my main attraction was the price (one euro per month) and fact that they do not associate payment with your email account. Haven’t done a deep dive but will compare to mailbox.org before I pull the trigger.

I moved my home to its own partition a while ago and recently changed my os. It worked well, just had to modify fstab to remap my home drive in the new OS. Not sure if this is what you’re after but I accomplished it al on my main drive by modifying partitions.

I saw these a few days ago and they reminded me that I am a moderator of a sleepy little community. 😆

Thankfully the mod tools were very effective in banning the user and nuking comments.

I’m going to ask my doctor to prescribe me a hot tub.

I didn’t need proof myself, but I suppose it’s comforting nevertheless to have it mathematically confirmed.

Scrap build using mostly red cedar and 1/4” plywood for the bottom. Burned it to get a worn look, and yes, it is janky on purpose. :)

I had to ground him.

I just watched That Peter Crouch Film, and it was great. It’s a wonderful documentary telling the unusual story of the titular footballer’s career and life, in and out of the sport.

I am not a football fan, but I loved this film for its great story, warmth, humour, and humanity. It’s an easy watch at just under 90 minutes. I watched it on Amazon where it is included with Prime (in Canada).

It turns out that good friends really are hard to find.

She is a very good girl!

I’m my own defence, I never knew she sold any.
