  • Brush: Rad Dinosaur Creations "Nebulagance" - TurnNShave Quartermoon 26mm synthetic
  • Razor: GEM - Micromatic Clog-Pruf
  • Blade: Personna - GEM PTFE (7)
  • Lather: Barrister and Mann - Ubrique
  • Post Shave: Barrister and Mann - Ubrique Aftershave splash
  • Post Shave: Stirling - Glacial Unscented Aftershave balm
  • Fragrance: Barrister and Mann - Ubrique EdP

This is my first shave with Ubrique, and I'm very impressed. It's a much spicier and richer leather scent than the Seaforth! Leather. A bit of tangy citrus and smoke, but much less coriander/bergamot brightness.

I'd situate it somewhere between Stirling's Oro Valley (an Ombre Leather dupe) and the Seaforth! Leather. The soap isn't quite as bright to my nose as Oro Valley, but it has a similar smoky/citrus (but much more complex) vibe. Obviously, the performance is top-notch like every other BaM soap.

The EdP is absolutely excellent. Dark leather, smoke, much more citrus, and a background of peppery goodness. I'm definitely a fan. I'd say this is worth picking up on its own at least if the soap and splash don't appeal to you.

The Clog-Pruf shaved great as always. Just an excellent start to my Saturday.

Stirling with a boar brush is always such a lovely lather.

  • Brush: Grizzly Bay - Chisel & Hound v24 Fanchurian badger
  • Razor: Yates Precision Manufacturing - 921-M
  • Blade: Gillette - Perma-Sharp (2)
  • Lather: Zingari Man - The Master
  • Post Shave: Zingari Man - The Master Recovery Splash
  • Fragrance: Barrister and Mann - Ubrique EdP

Mediocre shave -- for whatever reason this blade just wasn't cutting very close. No real irritation, but not at all the results I'd expect after three passes.

All the scents were great though. Tomorrow I want to do the Ubrique trifecta to see how it all plays together.

Praise the weekend y'all.

It's a good one. I don't think I'll replace it when it's done though. Too much other stuff to enjoy!

  • Brush: Zenith/Stirling - 510SE-XL 31mm boar
  • Razor: Gillette - Slim Adjustable (L4, 1966)
  • Blade: Personna - Lab Blue (4)
  • Lather: Chiseled Face - Ghost Town Barber
  • Post Shave: Chiseled Face - Ghost Town Barber Aftershave splash
  • Post Shave: Ginger's Garden - Unscented Aftershave balm (+ menthol)
  • Fragrance: Barrister and Mann - Ubrique EdP

Oh boy, here I go killing again! Back on the GTB grind.

Ubrique arrived today, and I'm not yet sure how I feel about it. The EdP is a really nice, warm, smoky leather. There's a lot of complexity here, though, so I'll need to spend more time with it.

Praise the weekend!

  • Brush: Chisel & Hound "Spice Lily" - TurnNShave Tuxedo 26mm synthetic
  • Razor: RazoRock - Game Changer .76
  • Blade: Gillette - 7 O'Clock SharpEdge (4)
  • Lather: ETHOS Grooming Essentials - Dragonsbeard
  • Post Shave: Talent Soap Factory - Wallflower Aftershave splash
  • Fragrance: Stirling - Stirling One EdT

Back with a second shave to try shifting to evening shaves. New job and commute have made it much more difficult to find time to run, so I'm going to start trying to fit it in before I need to leave. I'm not much of a morning person, so we'll see how it goes.

I used up the rest of my Dragonsbeard smush for this shave. It's a great scent and a very well-performing soap. I'd be interested in trying more ETHOS soaps in the future.

Man idk if I have the discipline to kill a tub of unscented soap

  • Brush: Summer Break Soaps "Elyria" - TurnNShave v9 28mm badger
  • Razor: Eldrormr Industries - MM24

  • Lather: ETHOS Grooming Essentials - Dragonsbeard
  • Post Shave: Barrister and Mann - Lavanille Aftershave splash
  • Post Shave: Stirling - Glacial Unscented Aftershave balm
  • Fragrance: Barrister and Mann - Lavanille EdT

For this month's meeting of the Buena Vista Wetshaving Club we're shaving with Dragonsbeard from ETHOS.

Artisan notes:

It combines Authentic Agarwood Oil and Oud Resin with essential oils of East Indian Sandalwood, Amber, Tonka Bean Butter, Madagascar Vanilla Bean Infusion Oil, and White Rose Absolute.

I wouldn't call this a gourmand, as the oud was front and center to my nose. I did pick up on a little spiciness and vanilla, and maybe a hint of rose. It's a very complex scent that I thoroughly enjoyed. The base also gave an excellent lather without too much effort.

Thanks for the smush @gcgallant@sub.wetshaving.social!

  • Post Shave: Zingari Man - The Watchman Aftershave balm

The Watchman is a great scent, and I'm glad I swooped it up. I also always enjoy using this brush. If I had to pick one, it might be my desert island brush.

  • Razor: Chiseled Face - Titanium Legacy Razor

  • Lather: Chiseled Face - Ghost Town Barber
  • Post Shave: Chiseled Face - Ghost Town Barber Aftershave splash

Back to the GTB kill with a quick and easy early (for me) morning shave. The Bolzano blade does really well in this razor, I may have to pick up more of these.

First day at the new job and with my new commute after working from home for the last ~5 years or so. It will be a bit of an adjustment, but I'm mostly looking forward to it.

Have a great day y'all!

I don't have any Wholly Kaw and would need to do some mental gymnastics to argue that I have a soap that matches half the scent notes for today's theme. 15 days is a good run, I definitely made it further than I expected. Out is out is out though.

Best of luck to the rest of the contestants, and big thanks to @enndeegee for the super fun idea!

They had built up a bit of soap residue. Now they’re cleaner.

I had some exciting stuff arrive this morning and over the weekend!

First up, a nice Stirling haul:
Stirling Haul

This is the 31mm Zenith boar brush, the same that was used for the subreddit's prior "Moar Boar" group buy. The handle feels great in hand, and the knot seems just as nice as my other Zenith boar. My only complaint is that the Zenith and Stirling logos are pretty far off-level with the base of the handle. Not the end of the world, but it's unfortunate.

Christmas Eve in a bath soap is a great scent. I'm looking forward to trying it and Frankincense & Myrrh in shave soap format.

Deep Blue Sea aftershave is a re-stock. I love it with a bit of menthol.

The bonus was a sample of Haverford bath soap. I've previously used the shave soap/splash/frag, so this sample is most welcome. It's such a winning scent, especially for this time of year.

Next, some new hardware:
New Razors

From left to right:

  • 1940's GEM Clog-Pruf Single Edge Razor
  • Chiseled Face Titanium Legacy Razor
  • RazoRock Game Changer with .68 and .76 plates and the "Bulldog" handle

The Clog-Pruf seems in quite good condition for its age and price (~$15 shipped). I'm still waiting on some GEM blades and want to clean it up just a bit before trying it out.

The CF TI Legacy razor is a real indulgence, but it's a belated birthday gift from my wife, and we got a good deal from a kind soul on Discord. I've shaved with this razor a few times since I got it this weekend and it's quickly vaulted to the top of my list. If I had to pick a desert island razor right now, this is very likely the one I would pick. Likely, I'm still deep in the honeymoon phase, but this is truly an outstanding razor.

I got a good deal on the Game Changer on the zaar before I ordered the CF Legacy. It's a great shaver, I like how low profile the head is (very easy to shave under the nose), and the stainless steel construction is most definitely a step up from my Rockwell 6C. This will probably take the 6C's place in my collection.

And finally, a Barrister and Mann score:
Paganini's Violin soap and aftershave splash

I've wanted to try this scent since I first read about it, so when I saw the set for a decent deal on the zaar I snatched it up.

Clean, mild, and strangely complex. I'm very much looking forward to getting to know this fragrance.

I had the day off today, so I hacked together a port of the SOTD emacs plugin that @PorkButtsNTaters666@sub.wetshaving.social uses.

It's still a pretty rough implementation, but I wanted to share the repository here in case others who use Neovim might want to help me kick the tires. I'm fully aware that this is a niche within a niche, but you miss 100% of the shots you don't take!

I know there's some cleanup that needs to happen, and the config file format could use a bit more thought, but it works well enough for now. If anyone feels compelled to use it I'd welcome any feedback either here or on the repo itself.

The code is hosted on GitHub here.

I usually face lather and get consistently good results at this point.

However, when I get a .5 oz. or less sample I'll smush the soap down into a thin, even layer using one of those collapsible slow-feed pet bowls. Every time I get a foamy bullshit lather.

I'm unsure how to get an equally wet and slick lather with the bowl. Do I just need to keep adding water? Move to the face sooner? Give up and grow a beard?
