Yes, that would have been my assumption as well. It's the difference between buying mercenaries vs paying the mob "for protection".

Yup, but it actually turned out a real life manic pixie dream girl really just had schizophrenia. Womp womp.

Fair. But the nicknames aren't funny or even catchy (but things like JD couch fucking was). Anyway, I didn't want to start any fights, and I feel less guilty now that I said it out loud. I think it's because I disagree that humor trivializes a serious topic, whatever that humor is. If anything, it keeps us from disengaging with this whole fucking shit show we're dealing with. The real danger is people tuning out.

Tacos are always nice.

Yup, in particular just the straight faced people having to say it over and over, it reminds me of Boaty McBoatface. It's so absurd, but I might just be losing my mind. I'm the type to crack jokes at a funeral, though- I think it's a coping mechanism.

That's a pretty fucked up thing to say to someone who agrees with you on facism. For someone often posting on humor communities, I'd expect better from you.

He did a few months (or was it a year?) with Firaxis, but it wasn't his just recent work. Iirc it was UX stuff.

I was about to close Lemmy for the night and now I need to forget this story because yikes. As a father of two little ones this really fucks with me, especially since the kids were going to be involved with drawings. Those kids are not going to grow up OK.

You people turned me into this artist, and I swear my first crush in high school was this fucking girl. I do not recommend.

You raise a good point. What other flags could folks surrounded by "patriots" fly for good fun?

I wouldn't do pizza, but I like absurdity. A high brow option might be a pipe... but no, I believe I might go with a lovely, steamy cup of coffee. Or perhaps an uncropped picture of a your pizza flag waving in the air. Yes, I do believe that would be absurd.

I don't even know anyone who uses BlueSky and that's considerably more trendy lately. Granted, most of my contacts are 20 something college girls so it's pretty much TikTok as far as the eye can see.

Damage may already be done. Longitudinal data can extrapolate missing time points but extended gaps in data make it less and less viable. It can invalidate a whole years long project if you're missing your final follow up or two.

Some research (usually with live specimen) can't be halted without really fucking up the research. People might be continuing work with a previous stipend, but who knows what tremors this process is causing in those sensitive projects.

Having worked in research, it really pisses me off. I hope people are finding stopgap funds to limp along through these dark ages.
