Missiles launching in 45 mins...

[–] troyunrau@lemmy.ca 3 points 2 days ago

That's kind of epic

[–] troyunrau@lemmy.ca 2 points 2 days ago

But how word you confirm this? Like you can't get to that speed? And even if it did break, wouldn't the scientific method kick in and we'd just revise our models?

This "living in a simulation" question appears to be our generation's version of the solipsism trap. Can't prove or disprove it.

Reddit sub references will be a hard habit to kick. Like hashtags ;)

Helle let in his one early goal. We might have to win 1-0

I think they might have a better grasp of the situation there than in other places :/

Chantel Kreviazuk has a hard task today.

Long lazy meandering answer.

My degree is in geophysics, so I'm somewhat professionally connected to the world of resources. So that's where I get that angle.

Physics, as a degree, is somewhat of the universal bullshit detector, since you learn to take what people say and run back-of-napkin math to figure out what is or isn't realistic. "Now hang on, that doesn't sound right... let me check..."

Aside from that, I'm also a fan of historical fiction, geopolitical games (EU4, etc.), and my spare time pursuits tend to send me down research rabbit holes, disentangling the fiction from reality. Largely for my own amusement. But it comes in handy on trivia night if the topic is the Teutonic Knights or something.

In grad school I'd hang out with the philosophers, geographers, and others that were asking large questions with beer in hand. "I'll buy you a beer if you can convince me the electron is real." was not a pickup line, but the start to several hours of liquored debate.

I've been known to be mildly politically active, and sort of on top of the pulse. But never an activist or anything. Observing and predicting is fun.

Today I was in Google Earth just looking at the continent of North America, looking at it as though I were the US playing a strategy game. The major areas of contention right now for the US are: Greenland, Panama, Mexico, and Canada. It's like he is establishing future boundaries at the edges of the continent -- like it is an affront that borders exist on it. Upon further contemplation, Canada is fucked if this is what they're doing. So I created !mapleresistance@lemmy.ca to start organizing -- maybe the space will grow organically.

But, no, I don't subscribe to higher end geopolitical info sources. That doesn't mean I eschew them either (ISW was particularly interesting at the start of Russia's invasion of Ukraine). I just integrate or search for info when questions are interesting.

I linked the Canex option. I also have older MEC bags that I like (from before their buyout).

The premise of a three day bag is to have something to grab and go in an emergency. Prepacked, near the door -- that sort of thing. Wait for the emergency to blow over, and have enough supplies to weather the period you need to make a decision.

What do you folks think should be in a three day bag? Does it vary if you're urban or rural? What about weather and time of year?

When faced with a sudden existential challenge, most people fall into one of three categories: fight, flee, or freeze.

The latter is scary -- it is to deny that anything is happening at all. This community is a place to discuss plans and options so that if/when the time comes, people have some plan in mind.

I expect that this community will attract people who are preppers planning to turtle somewhere, people who want to know how to move somewhere else on the planet, or people looking for ways to offer non-violent resistance.

For those looking to offer physical and violent resistance, this is not the place to organize or discuss this. Lemmy.ca needs to adhere to the existing laws in Canada, and nearly all violent options will be in violation of some law. You can, however, point people at their Canadian Forces recruitment office or similar.

You're not wrong. I just like to point out the actual logical folly now and again so that people in the middle (if any are left) can see the folly.

I just saw Apocalyptica last night. That's Metallica on three Cellos... close enough?

Tritanium -- is what, a portmanteau of Tritium and Titanium? I guess there's three elements with anium in the endings... What if Tritanium is an alloy of those three! Uranium, Germanium, and Titanium.

Actually, it probably just sounded cool. ;)

Because your faction standing in expeditions doesn't carry over to your main save, kill a bunch of frigates and freighters while in the expedition. Then transfer the tech modules back to your main save. Yoho

Assuming you end Expedition 17 with the Wraith as your ship, you can go to the Expedition terminal and copy the ship (in exchange for nanites) as per usual. The Wraith has a bunch of nice living ship modules on it.

Two options: store the modules and then salvage the ship; or store the ship in your hanger (so it isn't in your list of active ships). Then claim it again. Lather rinse repeat until you have enough upgrade modules for whatever you need.

You can also claim it from the Quicksilver terminal once.

Without the Nutty Club in operation, I can't really find anything made in Canada at all...

For chips we have Old Dutch and La Cochina and a few other good options. But I'm completely lost in the junk food aisle trying to find snacks for D&D.

This might be considered an exploit or glitch. I'm not the one to discover it. Probably some of you know this already.

You can transfer ALL of your Expedition items to your main save.

Step one -- complete the Expedition. But don't accept the End Expedition dialog when it pops up (ESC on PC, O on PlayStation, etc. -- basically, dismiss the dialog without hitting "Accept").

(A) Go to the Expedition terminal and fill up all the inventory there with stuff you want to transfer back to your main save. DO NOT CLICK END EXPEDITION.

(B) Get into and out of your starship to create a save, then using the game menu choose "Return to Primary Save"

(C) In your main save, collect all the Expedition items from the Expedition terminal. Then click "Resume Expedition" from the Expedition terminal.

(D) Go to step (A) and repeat until everything is transferred.

This is great if you want to collect things like technology modules from destroying frigates/freighters or something in your expedition save (to send back to your main save) without having to deal with the faction hits. Or whatever else you wish to farm from an expedition.

Haven't turned anything in a while. Chips!

I missed it the first time. Any recommendations for items to push through to the expedition from your main save?
