News and Discussions about Reddit

Welcome to !reddit. This is a community for all news and discussions about Reddit.

The rules for posting and commenting, besides the rules defined here for lemmy.world, are as follows:

Rules

Rule 1- No brigading.

**You may not encourage brigading any communities or subreddits in any way. **

YSKs are about self-improvement on how to do things.

Rule 2- No illegal or NSFW or gore content.

**No illegal or NSFW or gore content. **

Rule 3- Do not seek mental, medical and professional help here.

Do not seek mental, medical and professional help here. Breaking this rule will not get you or your post removed, but it will put you at risk, and possibly in danger.

Rule 4- No self promotion or upvote-farming of any kind.

That's it.

Rule 5- No baiting or sealioning or promoting an agenda.

Posts and comments which, instead of being of an innocuous nature, are specifically intended (based on reports and in the opinion of our crack moderation team) to bait users into ideological wars on charged political topics will be removed and the authors warned - or banned - depending on severity.

Rule 6- Regarding META posts.

Provided it is about the community itself, you may post non-Reddit posts using the [META] tag on your post title.

Rule 7- You can't harass or disturb other members.

If you vocally harass or discriminate against any individual member, you will be removed.

Likewise, if you are a member, sympathiser or a resemblant of a movement that is known to largely hate, mock, discriminate against, and/or want to take lives of a group of people, and you were provably vocal about your hate, then you will be banned on sight.

Rule 8- All comments should try to stay relevant to their parent content.

Rule 9- Reposts from other platforms are not allowed.

Let everyone have their own content.

:::spoiler Rule 10- Majority of bots aren't allowed to participate here.

So, I know this isn't a help forum or anything but, being Lemmy I'd think some people are on the same boat as me too.

I got permanently Banned in reddit for vote manipulation, I foolishly and childishly used 2 accounts to up vote myself to make it seem I was winning arguments. I then created a new account to start fresh but I didn't know that counted as a Ban Evasion(I didn't know ban Evasion was a thing), but that got banned too.

I've appealed by apologizing since I am guilty and genuinely sorry , however I'm not a spambot or anything. I made a mistake and just want a second chance.

Is there anything else I can do to start fresh "safely"? (factory reset my android device? I Can't change my external IP tho) Has anyone been on a similar situation and gotten their account reinstated?

Being honest I like Lemmy but it's nowhere near as populated as Reddit, sadly

I’m not saying the GOP won’t do it but getting mad before anything happens will create a avenue of attack for the GOP or make you look dumb when it doesn’t happen.

If the left gets in the habit of calling foul before anything is done when the actual bad news hits it will be less impactful.

Normally I would say let it be but with how much the GOP depend on voters in their party that benefit from Medicaid they are actively trying to soften the blow for when they actually do it.

This issue is a powder keg and if we flinch before it goes off we put ourselves in the blast zone.

You cannot access reddit without either an account, or turning off your VPN. Effectively meaning that it’s difficult to access reddit privately, as they can either track you with IP or with account.

Even alternative frontends like RDX for reddit by @overdevs@lemmy.world don’t solve this issue.

I can’t believe more people haven’t left because of that.

From the article:

Condé Nast, which owns Ars Technica and other publications such as Wired and The New Yorker, was joined in the lawsuit by The Atlantic, Forbes, The Guardian, Insider, the Los Angeles Times, McClatchy, Newsday, The Plain Dealer, Politico, The Republican, the Toronto Star, and Vox Media.

From another article:

The founders sold Reddit to Condé Nast for $10M less than a year after launch (in 2006). Ohanian and Huffman stayed on for a few years after the acquisition but, eventually, both went on to start other projects. Neither of them would be gone for long.

So, does Condé Nast own Reddit? Not exactly. Condé Nast owned Reddit until 2011 when Reddit became an “independent subsidiary” of Advance Publications—the company that owns Condé Nast, among others.

I only go on there nowadays for my city’s sub and r/nba. I logged on yesterday while I was on a vpn and found out today that my account as suspended due to “unusual activity”. I didn’t register an email when I created that account. Welp, bye bye to that account then.
