Eh? Maybe I'm visualizing this wrong.
I've never had a problem making FreeCAD measure anywhere to anywhere, no matter what it was or in what orientation.
You almost got it. Make the line a diameter, then move the diameter offset from the plane formed by the circle. And it's good that the circle is at some random angle to the xy plane. Yeah solidworks sucks at it. I would show the example but its a work project. Can't show those.
Do you mean something like this? The two parts are offset but parallel.
Yup almost. In my case the measurements would not actually give a normal direction measurement. That's why it frustrates me so much.
You can't provide a similar but different example?
I've moved on with my life lol. I should do a video demo of how its done on NX. Its so incredibility intuitive. I haven't touched NX in the good part of a year. Maybe 6 months. Unlike in klunker solidworks, NX will always give you the answers you are looking for.
I've never had the opportunity to work with NX. I love SW, but it is very quirky and finding solutions to problems is not easy. You shouldn't need to log into a forum to read the responses of commonly asked questions.
Would love to see a video of NX. You should share that.
Check it out!

I can see how that would be useful. I think the measure tool in Blender is similar.
Thanks for the video!
