You're joking, right? "Stay woke" has been a phrase since forever.
I didn’t know it’s origin was AAVE
Then obviously you don't listen to enough hip hop.
I listen to a ton of hip hop, I was raised on hip hop, it just never occurred to me that it was AAVE slang
I'm just finding it hard to believe that you didn't know woke was a black word, unless you don't have much experience being around black culture.
(And stop calling it "AAVE", you dork.)
I grew up in NY listening to hot 97 and power 105.1, went to city college where I was one of the only white kids. It’s more like I didn’t know the origin, I just thought it was like any other word.
