When the President of the United States says this shit, is it okay now to say - as a Canadian - that I wonder why more Americans aren't trying to kill him yet? Like, what the hell is going on? HE IS GOING TO GET US ALL KILLED.

[–] conditional_soup@lemm.ee 4 points 9 hours ago (1 children)

My pet conspiracy theory is that there's already been multiple attempts since Butler, but they aren't being publicized because they don't want to encourage others.

[–] Adderbox76@lemmy.ca 3 points 7 hours ago

That wouldn't surprise me. I live in awe of he fact that he's not dodging bullets all day every day.

[–] PraxicalExperience@lemmy.world 1 points 7 hours ago

I think it's just because people still have hope that the systems will work as usual and right the ship. I think a lot of people are waiting to see what happens with this administration's reaction to court orders, etc. But I think that we're going to start spawning radicalized reactionaries soon.

[–] Gabadabs@lemmy.blahaj.zone 24 points 21 hours ago (3 children)

Do you expect the average American to just be able to stroll up to him with a gun and shoot him? We're literally a police state. He's got secret service watching him. It's complicated, and if somebody was successful they would be throwing away their own entire life guaranteed.

[–] Adderbox76@lemmy.ca 1 points 7 hours ago (1 children)

Give me a gun and a strategy to get close enough and I would gladly sacrifice my life. It's THAT fucking important at this point.

Nothing changes until people are willing to put their own lives at risk.

[–] Gabadabs@lemmy.blahaj.zone 1 points 7 hours ago (1 children)

For what? Another will take his place. There's no shortage of people pushing for project 2025 and supporting his political policies. It's not just trump.

[–] Adderbox76@lemmy.ca 1 points 7 hours ago (1 children)

Then you do the same to the next one. And the one after that. And the one after that. Until someone gets up there and decides he/she doesn't want it happening to them too.

The point isn't that there's "going to be another"...that's just defeatism. The point is to make them realise that they will NEVER be safe. That there are people willing to do anything to see them strung up by their ankles in a town square.

Courage is contagious.

[–] Gabadabs@lemmy.blahaj.zone 3 points 7 hours ago (1 children)

It's not defeatism, at all, it's the recognition of an ineffective method of resolving things. Real life isn't a movie where things just work out when you do stupid shit.

[–] Adderbox76@lemmy.ca 2 points 6 hours ago (1 children)

History disagrees with you.

No despot in history has ever fallen without violence. Hell, your own, country was built on that fact.

At exactly what point did America go from "the tree of liberty must be refreshed with the blood of patriots" to "this is an ineffective means of resolving things."?

[–] Gabadabs@lemmy.blahaj.zone 2 points 6 hours ago (1 children)

Political violence that will make change will be larger scale and organized, not individuals trying to kill a bad president, or two, or three.

[–] Adderbox76@lemmy.ca 1 points 6 hours ago

Yeah, I'm not arguing that. My point is simply that it has to start somewhere.

[–] NotLemming@lemm.ee 16 points 20 hours ago

That kid nearly did it. Soon there will be fake trumps like the fake Putin's.

[–] toy_boat_toy_boat@lemmy.world 1 points 18 hours ago* (last edited 18 hours ago)

i agree with the other person who replied.

[–] RainbowHedgehog@lemm.ee 13 points 21 hours ago (2 children)

Those two attempts failed. Now he isn’t on the campaign trail and he has the world’s best security. The only people that can take him down are an army at this point.

[–] Sterile_Technique@lemmy.world 10 points 18 hours ago (1 children)

The only people that can take him down are an army at this point.

Incidentally, the US Army is among those who are oath bound to depose Donald Trump.

[–] RainbowHedgehog@lemm.ee 2 points 8 hours ago (1 children)

This is why I’m so confused they’re not doing anything. Especially since the Trump admin is actively attacking the military.

[–] Sterile_Technique@lemmy.world 2 points 4 hours ago

Kinda concerning, but then what isn't nowadays.

[–] Captainvaqina@sh.itjust.works 9 points 20 hours ago (1 children)

The world's best security that almost saved the world twice with their incompetence?

Yea there's still hope for America yet.

[–] RainbowHedgehog@lemm.ee 3 points 20 hours ago (1 children)

I’m still not sure if that was planned incompetence or not.

[–] Captainvaqina@sh.itjust.works 6 points 20 hours ago

Oh you mean the photo op that just so happened to catch the perfect picture of mr traitor tampon ear?

Yea not a scratch on that worthless filthy fucking trash bag of an empty head.

I don't buy it either. But one can dream...

[–] WrenFeathers@lemmy.world 8 points 23 hours ago* (last edited 22 hours ago) (1 children)

I would think no, but considering that I posted the article, I’d leave it for other mods to act on if necessary.

A bit of a grey area to me as it’s just wondering, not actually suggesting.

[–] toy_boat_toy_boat@lemmy.world 11 points 22 hours ago

There HAS to be news that's not being covered about shit like this. I refuse to believe that in a country of nearly 400 million people there aren't a few with good sense

[–] shiroininja@lemmy.world 6 points 21 hours ago (1 children)

I think they think it’s futile, since bullets didn’t work. But we have other means. Like remote controlled flying things.

[–] toy_boat_toy_boat@lemmy.world 12 points 21 hours ago* (last edited 21 hours ago) (1 children)

I'm just really really disappointed in Time. Like, you had ONE JOB.

I won't mention on the "bullets didn't work" comment. But have you ever heard the word "yet"?

The guy is threatening to annex my fucking country. If you have problems with me wishing harm upon your self-proclaimed conqueror, you can eat my leaf. (not you specifically, of course)

[–] AbidanYre@lemmy.world 4 points 20 hours ago

Trump seems to like Napoleon's quote that "He who saves his Country does not violate any Law." And while I don't want you to get hurt, it seems that an executive action from your new PM would be saving his country from a foreign threat.
