I re-frame it as such because

  1. Life experience has taught me that a lot of people suck at risk assessment. There's a lot of people who inappropriately believe that it can't happen to them for no other reason than they believe that they won't roll a 1. In this regard, it's a wake-up call that people have a tangible self-interest in defending others.

  2. A shocking amount of people have an acute lack of empathy for strangers, and have a hard time putting themselves in other people's shoes. This is an invitation to imagine what's happening to others by imagining it happening to them.
