I've read that police (I'm not sure if that includes LAPD) have started using video from Waymo cameras in their investigations, same as they use CCTV from shops etc.

So that might be one reason to burn them, especially if they were seen to have been sent into the protest area not for passengers but for reconnaissance.

Or maybe it's just because they don't fight back.
