They've almost found the phi-male. Keep looking, guys!
most americans wont get this because they say "fie"
we will take your language's letters, mispronounce tf out of them, and call it correct
I listened to a Dutch person pronounce Gouda (cheese) and now pronounce it that way, much to the dismay of my fellow Americans.
How do they pronounce it?
https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/9/9a/Nl-Gouda.ogg
A bit like "khow-da". Also acceptable: gow-da. US: goo-da.
How do you pronounce Van Gogh?
"Vuhn Gerdge"
Van Go (beep beep)
Fun Goth
doesn't beat w.e.b. dubois
Just call him Doctor and he'll be happy
That’s a weird way to pronounce Van Gogh. 😉
thanks to the comment, i now know it's van HHOHH or however it should be phonetically spelled. and no, i had never heard it said by a native prior to that
now i'll be that annoying ackckshuallyyy dweeb that corrects people
I recently watched the documentary Van Gogh by Vincent, which narrates his development as an artist by using his own self-portraits. Hearing the way the speakers pronounce his name is now cemented in my mind. Honestly it still feels weird, but I'll get used to it.
if you enjoy art documentaries, check out tim's vermeer, about a random rich dude who hypothesized vermeer's method of painting using mirrors, then painted a near perfect duplicate of a vermeer using the method, having never been a painter before
Ooh, it's directed by Teller and produced by Penn Jillette, too? It's gotta be good.
Thank you for the recommendation!
i don't watch art docus but i enjoyed it. definitely worth the hour it takes to watch
If you don’t watch Doctor Who, and even if you do, Vincent and the Doctor is the best season 5 episode (no spoilers for the larger series arcs).
And that’s when I started questioning how I pronounce Van Gogh (I’m American, so I say Go with the long ō).
