He doesn't really need the money for the legal bills. His family has a good bit of money. But the gesture is nice and the money could be used for other things if they don't use it.

I know he comes from money. But I thought he was kind of on awkward terms with them. Are they actually supporting his legal defense?

I haven't heard of any trouble between them? As far as I understand it they hadn't spoken for a few months but were worried and are helping his defense.

I'm guessing (completely without any knowledge) that it buys more lawyers able to work on the case.

I'm also curious what it really does.
