Fascists calling eachother communists like this on Twitter while working class people cheer them on for being so funny is just not the future I envisioned or wanted.

[–] glimse@lemmy.world 56 points 6 days ago (5 children)

I don't have many nice things to say about Newsom but let's not dilute the word fascist into a generic insult eh?

[–] miked@sh.itjust.works 20 points 6 days ago* (last edited 6 days ago) (2 children)

He made being unhoused illegal.

While I like him mocking trump I still don't like him.

Can we please not start advocating for the lesser of two evils before the primaries even happen? There is still time to get someone who isn't actually evil the nomination FFS! If it comes down to him or Vance I will reluctantly vote for him- we are not there yet.

[–] al_Kaholic@lemmynsfw.com 4 points 6 days ago (1 children)

Just because you can't see the writing on the wall doesn't mean it's not there. Maybe their won't be an election? The big old orange trump needs to flush to where he has earned.

[–] Wolf@lemmy.today 4 points 6 days ago

I also think Trump will try to block/dodge further elections. What does that have to do with Newsom or JD Vance?

[–] NoneOfUrBusiness@fedia.io 11 points 6 days ago (1 children)

I mean, there are non-fascist neoliberals out there, but this shit is just fascism. If it can happen to the homeless, it can happen to anyone.

[–] Wolf@lemmy.today 5 points 6 days ago* (last edited 6 days ago)

That's just liberal bullshit, not fascism.

There are plenty of NIMBY democrats as evidence by all the Dems who are treating Newsom as the second coming of Christ and the presumptive 2028 nominee, despite his disgusting practices Vis-à-vis the homeless.

Fascism is a Far Right, Authortarian, and Ultranationalist ideology that combines a militaristic autocracy, forcible suppression of dissent, and a racist social order. By using the term as if it means 'things we hate', then it waters down the actual definition and gives MAGAts who constantly try to turn the word around on us ammunition.

Call it gross, call it late stage capitalism, call it vile, disgusting, cruel, short sighted. Call it sweeping the problem under the rug, call out liberals for supporting it. All of those things are true. It's not fascism though.

Ya. Honestly, I'm getting pretty close to being done with Lemmy at this point. The way to fight extremism is not with different extremism. Between the hyper purity test Leftists, and the AI=evil absolutists, it feels like there's never any room for constructive discussion anymore. If I even ask a clarifying question about someone's views, even one that I could potentially be swayed towards, the response always comes back as some variation of "You're one of them aren't you!"

[–] lmmarsano@lemmynsfw.com 7 points 6 days ago* (last edited 6 days ago)

hyper purity test Leftists, and the AI=evil absolutists

IMPURE LEFTISTS BAD, AI BAD

UPVOTES NOW OR YOU'RE ONE OF THEM

ain't rigid, overzealous thinking great?

[–] Lyrl@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 6 days ago* (last edited 6 days ago)

I like Tildes for more nuanced conversations. It has the reply box all the way at the bottom of threads, which is a subtle discouragement of replying before reading the existing comments. It's also just smaller and slower paced. It's not immune to pile-on bubble-views, but it's significantly toned down.

[–] theuniqueone@lemmy.dbzer0.com 0 points 6 days ago (2 children)

There is no such thing as "leftist extremism" especially in the united states. It's also not "purity testing" to want to not kill homeless and trans people.

[–] Velypso@sh.itjust.works -1 points 6 days ago* (last edited 6 days ago) (1 children)

Show us where and how that's happening in CA then.

[–] theuniqueone@lemmy.dbzer0.com 8 points 6 days ago (1 children)

Or yes Newsom's widespread destruction of homeless camps surely has no consequences on that community and his support of transphobic rhetoric surely doesn't contribute to massive trans suicide and murder rates how could I think otherwise? /S

[–] sartalon@lemmy.world -1 points 6 days ago (2 children)

You proved his point, arguing against his point.

That's some real lack of self awareness.

[–] theuniqueone@lemmy.dbzer0.com 9 points 6 days ago (1 children)

What point of his did I "prove"?

[–] Cruxifux@feddit.nl 3 points 6 days ago (1 children)

I’m not diluting the word, I’m using the classical definition of it.

[–] Wolf@lemmy.today -2 points 6 days ago

What do you think the classical definition is?

[–] MagicianWithABadPlan@lemmy.world 0 points 6 days ago (3 children)

Newsom isn't great but he's leagues ahead of the small fingered vulgarian. I'm not going to let the perfect be the enemy of the good. He's going to get my vote if he runs.

[–] Cruxifux@feddit.nl 12 points 6 days ago (1 children)

“He’s not perfect” is such a weird way to describe someone whose policies are literally killing people just in his home state. Where and when are we going to draw the line on this shit?

[–] MagicianWithABadPlan@lemmy.world -1 points 5 days ago (1 children)

What? Do something else so that a petty despot like the small fingered vulgarian can win again? Seriously.

[–] Cruxifux@feddit.nl 2 points 5 days ago

Remember when Biden got in and it stopped fascism?

[–] ghen@sh.itjust.works 7 points 6 days ago* (last edited 6 days ago) (1 children)

Unless someone better takes the place first. If newsom's all we get then that's what I'll vote for because of how our voting system works, but I have faith that a good quality primary will bring a better candidate to the limelight

[–] Velypso@sh.itjust.works 2 points 6 days ago (1 children)
[–] ghen@sh.itjust.works 8 points 6 days ago

Let me have my positivity while it doesn't count.

[–] Wolf@lemmy.today 5 points 6 days ago* (last edited 6 days ago) (1 children)

Are you a liberal?

If not, why wouldn't you throw your support behind a leftist or progressive candidate at least until the primaries are over? I am 100% for not letting perfect be the enemy of the good, but I am also against letting mediocrity be the enemy of the good.

[–] MagicianWithABadPlan@lemmy.world 1 points 5 days ago (2 children)

Because the next step is more important that the perfect step. Sander's and people like him can't win right now. I want to support progress and sometimes that means smaller steps.

[–] piefood@feddit.online 2 points 5 days ago* (last edited 5 days ago)
  • Mamdani wins
  • AOC wins
  • Sawant wins
  • Walton wins
  • Sanders has to have a primary rigged to keep him from winning
  • Sanders polls better in Red states that Trump and Hillary

Sander's and people like him can't win right now

[–] Wolf@lemmy.today 1 points 5 days ago

So, If I am understanding your correctly, you think that if the left rallies behind a progressive/leftists candidate that they might be able to win the primary- but not the general election?

If that is not what you are saying then I don't understand your reply.

I'm not trying to flame you, I am seriously interested in your point of view.
