Why park in the bike lane instead of the car lane?

Do bikes with flat tires pull over and park in the car lane?

You can choose whichever you like but I’m more comfortable risking getting run over by one than the other

Importantly this was in a city.

  • car traffic was constant
  • they had just gone down to one car lane to support a bus lane and bicycle lane - stopping in the car lane would have been out in the middle of everything and a much bigger obstruction I would have been standing in the bus lane to change my tire rather than the sidewalk
  • because of how busy, Nobody was going to be zooming by. cyclists were not at risk
