Have you ever seen those old political cartoons about the 'upper' classes, depicting them all as extremely (like actually round in shape) fat folks always eating at a table while others starve? The stereotypical caricature came from somewhere in reality, and my bet is that eating all you want has always been a staple of people in a pretty good position in life.

This is also observed in Korea: in North Korean culture dear leader is always round, signalling abundance, while the opposite is true in the South, where food is actually abundant.
