/c/TenFoward: Your home-away-from-home for all things Star Trek!

Re-route power to the shields, emit a tachyon pulse through the deflector, and post all the nonsense you want. Within reason of course.

~ 1. No bigotry. This is a Star Trek community. Remember that diversity and coexistence are Star Trek values. Any post/comments that are racist, anti-LGBT, or generally "othering" of a group will result in removal/ban.

~ 2. Keep it civil. Disagreements will happen both on lore and preferences. That's okay! Just don't let it make you forget that the person you are talking to is also a person.

~ 3. Use spoiler tags. This applies to any episodes that have dropped within 3 months prior of your posting. After that it's free game.

~ 4. Keep it Trek related. This one is kind of a gimme but keep as on topic as possible.

~ 5. Keep posts to a limit. We all love Star Trek stuff but 3-4 posts in an hour is plenty enough.

~ 6. Try to not repost. Mistakes happen, we get it! But try to not repost anything from within the past 1-2 months.

~ 7. No General AI Art. Posts of simple AI art do not 'inspire jamaharon'

~ 8. No Political Upheaval. Political commentary is allowed, but please keep discussions civil. Read here for our community's expectations.

Fun will now commence.

Ugh, I got stuck in a Tholian web once at a Equinix datacenter.

Took four hours for the guys to figure out how to repolarize the emitters to get me out.

Really really annoying.

If i get stuck in a tholian web i will go mirror phlox on those crystalline bastards.

Idunno. Doesn't sound needlessly sexy enough.

[–] sxan@midwest.social 5 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Is that really from ST? Or from a porn parody?

[–] ummthatguy@lemmy.world 8 points 2 weeks ago (3 children)

Trick question. Star Trek Enterprise is both, because Berman.

The gif is from the 2 parter "In a Mirror Darkly" late into season 4.

Star Trek Enterprise is both, because Berman.

The fucking decontamination scenes were the worst offenders in Enterprise. But Lower Decks making fun of it was pretty good.

Super greased up Ransom was a nice payoff.

Nice. Stamets can add it to his collage of Trek shirtless guys.

In the mirror universe, they save money in uniforms and spend more on guns.

[–] sxan@midwest.social 2 points 2 weeks ago

Ah. I skip a lot of neutrek; most everything between DS9 and Lower Decks, although I am watching Strange New Worlds and find it about 50% enjoyable. I have a hard time with all of the retconning.

A lot of this stuff goes over my head. Trauma from some of the later movies, and the dark turn everything took during DS9 put me off.

Sec+ studying? Pretty sure i remember this question from that.

[–] Fuck_u_spez_@sh.itjust.works 2 points 2 weeks ago

I think this one was net+ but yeah. I was trying to find something to bore me enough to let me fall asleep and instead I found this gem.

[–] Tar_alcaran@sh.itjust.works 4 points 2 weeks ago

If I'm getting more troglodytes stuck in my Tholian web, they're getting the Rays! This is why we have a Min Cage people!

A mantrap is like a turnstyle that goes up to the ceiling, or something like an airlock. You can still tailgate someone through it and they might not say anything. Never let someone else in. Make them badge in or get security to help them even if you know them.

[–] Nomecks@lemmy.ca 3 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Good luck trying to get two people through most datacenter man traps. They weigh you and monitor whose in the trap. You can't even sneak equipment out.

It's a high security location. I've been to ones with blast resistant walls and windows in lobby.

[–] teft@lemmy.world 2 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Make them badge in or get security to help them even if you know them.

This is good advice. You never know who might be a changeling infiltrator.

[–] GrumpyDuckling@sh.itjust.works 2 points 2 weeks ago

Or your coworker who got fired yesterday.

[–] SkyezOpen@lemmy.world 1 points 2 weeks ago

Make one with 4 90 degree sections that turns exactly twice per swipe. Anyone tailgating gets stuck in the side, and then the pitfall opens.

[–] sxan@midwest.social 2 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Can anyone who's in data center security explain why it's a good thing to limit the number of people in the center at one time?

I'd think setting up a system where only one person is allowed to be in there, alone, would be far worse.

[–] cannibalkitteh@lemmy.blahaj.zone 8 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

It's not the number of people in the center, it's the number of people able to enter at one time. Basically, it allows them to ensure that everyone is being clearly identified on entry.

[–] sxan@midwest.social 2 points 2 weeks ago

Ah. Yeah, that makes sense.
