Holding a brand new species with bare hands. Yeah no, I'm out. That thing will end up sweating poison when threatened or whatever.

I'm in the middle of a Star Trek all-series re-watch. It never really bothered me, but it's pretty hilarious how they basically use no form of PPE when entering completely alien environments.

Do they still watch The Thing in Antarctica, or did that tradition stop?

[–] Schadrach@lemmy.sdf.org 1 points 1 day ago

...which is amusing because my first thought was At the Mountains of Madness, which apparently was an inspiration for The Thing.

It's about as scary as "women bleed each month", or I'd say periods are even scarier. It'd get explained early, sanitary products would be made with it in mind and it would be normalized in ancient Egypt.

More like "women lay eggs/give birth each month", but, well, monthly, not almost daily.

First of all, that second url made me chuckle. "Turns up bizarre sea creatures like nothin." Like, "Check it homie, these fuckin' scientists are discovering shit like it ain't nothin'. Shiiiiiiit."

Secondly, it makes me think of a baby Old One. Look at it. With it's lil tentacles and stuff. Gross little creature. Ugh. Praise him.

"Yo, dawg. These scientists be out here scraping the floor of the ocean! in Antractica! Whattttt? They finding animals that didn't even exist before. That's what's up."

[–] OldManBOMBIN@lemmy.world 6 points 3 days ago (1 children)

"These bitchin'-ass mofos be 'scovern errthan."

[–] Hadriscus@lemm.ee 5 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Considering it's a clickbait content theft mill run by state actors serving malware ads, of course they will write whatever it takes.

[–] OldManBOMBIN@lemmy.world 1 points 2 days ago (1 children)

I just figured it was generated by a script or something, but I gotta say, you should go hide yourself somewhere or something. I think Pops might've had enough crystal for a while. Dude needs to chill and take a nap.

[–] satans_methpipe@lemmy.world 2 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Believe it or not I'm sober. Or am I misunderstanding?

[–] OldManBOMBIN@lemmy.world 2 points 2 days ago

"It has something quite interesting at the front and I sort of liken it to a hippopotamus"

First they harassed and flopped around the sea cucumber then it turned out it was alien embryos incubator and the lady is #1 on intergalactic wanted list

[–] shneancy@lemmy.world 18 points 3 days ago

[–] Biggles@lemmy.myserv.one 3 points 2 days ago

Put it back please.

[–] GaMEChld@lemmy.world 3 points 2 days ago

So like... How possible would it be that you thaw something like that out and you release some kinda doom virus?

[–] MyDogLovesMe@lemmy.world 8 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Reminds me of that thing in the movie “Life”, more than the thing. Surprised it didn’t crush the researchers hand…

[–] Hobbes_Dent@lemmy.world 4 points 2 days ago

Yeah, that movie is an underrated terror.

[–] KittyCat@lemmy.world 3 points 2 days ago (1 children)

That's clearly some new type of sea cucumber, it's not mysterious at all
