Rules
-
Be nice to each other. Being aggressive or inflammatory towards other users will get you banned. Name calling or obvious trolling falls under that. Hate cars, hate the system, but not people. While some drivers definitely deserve some hate, most of them didn't choose car-centric life out of free will.
-
No bigotry or hate. Racism, transphobia, misogyny, ableism, homophobia, chauvinism, fat-shaming, body-shaming, stigmatization of people experiencing homeless or substance users, etc. are not tolerated. Don't use slurs. You can laugh at someone's fragile masculinity without associating it with their body. The correlation between car-culture and body weight is not an excuse for fat-shaming.
-
Stay on-topic. Submissions should be on-topic to the externalities of car culture in urban development and communities globally. Posting about alternatives to cars and car culture is fine. Don't post literal car fucking.
-
No traffic violence. Do not post depictions of traffic violence. NSFW or NSFL posts are not allowed. Gawking at crashes is not allowed. Be respectful to people who are a victim of traffic violence or otherwise traumatized by it. News articles about crashes and statistics about traffic violence are allowed. Glorifying traffic violence will get you banned.
-
No reposts. Before sharing, check if your post isn't a repost. Reposts that add something new are fine. Reposts that are sharing content from somewhere else are fine too.
-
No misinformation. Masks and vaccines save lives during a pandemic, climate change is real and anthropogenic - and denial of these and other established facts will get you banned. False or highly speculative titles will get your post deleted.
-
No harassment. Posts that (may) cause harassment, dogpiling or brigading, intentionally or not, will be removed. Please do not post screenshots containing uncensored usernames. Actual harassment, dogpiling or brigading is a bannable offence.
Please report posts and comments that violate our rules.
The word you're looking for is "hypocrisy".
That too
aint about cars.
brazilian big farm has made a mission out of destroying the amazon in every conceivable way for gringos to profit.
this gotta be the very least egregious shit happening over there.
Sure, it's primarily about carnism. Were talking about destroying the planet to torture/murder animals and to grow feed to torture/murder animals.
But it's also about cars. They're not building trains. It's all disposable car cult.
oh, its even worse than that.
carnism is a smaller part of it; its mostly about exporting soy (and meat to a lesser extent) tax-free. they do a lot of logging too. a lot of the food we actually eat in the country comes from smaller and less unethical farms though, and brazilians cant afford to eat meat that cheaply anymore.
here is the thing though, we have so much land in brazil its usually cheaper for them to just burn more forest off, and clear it for more fields instead of properly utilizing the 90-something% of land they already own.
how can this be? good, old fashioned capitalism. they own the fucking government, so they zeroed out export tax (just for themselves) and hollowed out environmental laws. this allows them to earn in dollars tax-free and to easily and cheaply move to new land when they are done playing with old land. to hell with affordability of food for actual brazilians and climate change, line must go up.
oh did i mention they still murder the indigenous people and communists who try to fight back? did i mention the rampant extrativism sponsored by the us and europe? yeah, fuck capitalism, fuck imperialism. they deserve a slow painful death in the hands of who they murder and starve.
my favorite graffiti i've seen i think was "the wrong amazon is burning"
Peak global capitalism.
The jokes write themselves.
Because hosting it in a place with all the necessary infrastructure already in place would have made too much sense. Like, oh I don't know, that one Brazilian city that recently hosted the World Cup and then the Olympics, both with many orders of magnitude more people attending than a climate conference. No gotta spend a fortune building brand new shit for a once in decades thing.
How much you want to bet this is just an excuse to funnel public money into a private construction firm?
It honestly sometimes starts to feel like they're gloating.
