Disagree. It’s hard to watch the old one without remembering how fucking bullshit the new one is and it’s annoying to discuss the old one when it’s always going to be compared to the new one.
The remake will always taint the original.
It will only do that if you let it.

I recently rewatched the original three Indiana Jones movies, and they are still brilliant despite the last two crap films.
I don't believe that my copy of the original Naked Gun movies will be any different.
Yeah, but... The Matrix, though.
I'm one of those weirdos who didn't think two and three were terrible. They didn't live up to the original, but I didn't think they completely ruined it.
But four. I can't watch the first one any more without thinking about how Neo isn't even "The One" by canon.
And I think The Wachowskis specifically intended to retroactively ruin the other three with Resurrections. (I know Lilly wasn't so involved with Resurrections, but I doubt Lana would have gone way against Lilly's wishes on it.) The whole movie felt like a cry of "fuck this, I don't want to be making this, so I'm going to make it the absolutely worst abomination ever."
(And there's another one coming. 😬 )
Movies (and other fiction) largely work by setting up expectations and then building/working off of/subverting/whatever those expectations. When you fuck with those expectations in later films, it can make the earlier films no longer "work".
I don't disagree with you regarding Indiana Jones. The last two don't ruin the first three. But the execution makes a big difference in terms of whether sequels retroactively ruin earlier films.
That's not what I expected to see today, but Neeson is a good choice for it.
Certainly a better choice for this than he is for a million terrible action movies about old men who kill people.

Oh boy, that looks...not good.
I think Neison could do it. But if those are good gags etc. The writers need to be taken out back and shot. That was just awful. Outside the nordberg bit. I will admit. I did get a small chuckle on the OJ diss.

The funniest things I've seen since the last Naked Gun movie with Leslie Neilson was everyday American politics.
What about when he said he was looking for a "black bastard" to beat up?
Roaming the street carrying a metal bar so he can beat the first black person he comes across in retribution for a crime someone else committed.
