Swung by the Rancho Seco Nuclear Generating Station on my way home from camping

the Nuclear plant is now decommissioned but is now a solar farm called Rancho Seco Solar II, I really wanted to see those cooling towers

What's up with those huge stains on the sides of the cooling towers? Guessing rain?

Not sure. I can’t think of a reason why it would be on only one side like this. Could be lichen or other organisms growing on the north side where there is more moisture?

yeah that would be my guess too, the side that is shaded more from the sun

Some years the hiking trails have great wildflower blooms. Did you see any in your visit?

yeah we camped about an hour away and it was full of flowers! it was really nice until the wind stopped and the mosquitos showed up in force

I mean the Rancho Seco site specifically! But I’m glad you saw them nearby.
