I don't like the default GrapheneOS apps, looking to switch.

They are great. They just make the job done. But I don't use all their apps.

[–] kepix@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago

i dont think any of us gone through all their code. my phone does say none of the fossify apps have used any internet in the past 1 month, so i guess...yes?

as for recommendation, there are not much alternatives to go around. the pack however is really great. i genuinely hated them 2 years ago, cause the phone app was unable to use 2 sim cards, and the ui sucked ass, but just tried them out again, and they are pretty good. ton of colour customisation, proper export and import features, logical 2 sim options, event integration to calendar, and one click country specific holiday import too.

gallery is...serviceable. notes is barebones. time doesnt have good widgets. calling, sms, contact, calendar however are great.

Trustworthy, yes. Recommended -- it depends. I use contacts and gallery regularly with no problems. Like @tastemyglaive@lemmy.ml I found that the phone app was not great.

[–] iturnedintoanewt@lemmy.world 2 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Any recommendations for the contacts app?

[–] stinerman@midwest.social 1 points 1 day ago

I think it's fine. Not much difference than stock Android but it does what I need it to do.

Any recs for a phone app? It's not great and I miss the swipe to call (coming from Samsung. Still useful anyway)

Sorry, I don't really use my phone much to call people. The stock app that comes with LineageOS is what I use when I do call.

The Fossify phone app would refuse to dismiss VM notifications, which is why I didn't like it.

Awwww no problem! Thank you.

The stock Graphene OS isn't bad but I wanted something better

[–] VeganCheesecake@lemmy.blahaj.zone 1 points 21 hours ago (1 children)

The stock Graphene app has call recording. Very few other options can do that.

[–] Cris16228@lemmy.today 1 points 20 hours ago (1 children)

No idea in my could try but in some isn't it illegal to record without warning/consent? Or am I missing something?

[–] VeganCheesecake@lemmy.blahaj.zone 1 points 17 hours ago (1 children)

Depends on your jurisdiction. For some US states, only one of the recorded parties has to consent. In my jurisdiction, both parties have to consent.

Can definitely be useful for longer/complicated calls if you can't take notes in the moment. I'm not suggesting you use it to break any laws, of course.

[–] Cris16228@lemmy.today 1 points 9 hours ago (1 children)

I'm in EU and I have to check that.

Yeah the only use case is to just record for notes if you can't/don't want to take them at the moment

[–] VeganCheesecake@lemmy.blahaj.zone 1 points 6 hours ago* (last edited 6 hours ago)

Yeah, I'm in Germany. It used to differ country to country, but since GDPR, you need consent, need to have/give a proper reason for the recording, need to store it in encrypted form, need to provide it to the other party if requested, need to delete it upon request, need to delete it when it has fulfilled it's purpose. Might have forgotten some requirements.

Things are probably less stringent for one private person recording another, but I'd err on the side of caution and always ask for consent. And if you want to record someone doing something illegal, probably ask a lawyer whether that'd be admissable.

I use the Notes, Calendar, and Gallery app quite often, but I found that the dialer is not particularly great, and I use the AOSP apps for text messages and contacts.

[–] tastemyglaive@lemmy.ml 8 points 2 days ago (2 children)

Honestly it really depends, I found their phone app somewhat buggy. The contacts are great. Messages I had an issue where the archive didn't even work and just seemed to delete stuff. Which would have been really annoying if I actually needed anything deleted. Gallery is okay, nothing wrong with it. The file manager is as good as your operating system lets it be (IYKYK), but you're already on Lineage so you're fine.

I'm not sure of replacements for the other apps, but Aves Libre is the best gallery app I've ever used and it's open source

Cool. I use Chrono for clock, just try it, it's the best.

I don't recall Fossify Clock being worth it. Calendar is fine although I would be wary of using certain notification settings (which are a bit annoying since they can only be changed by category, and need to fire once per category before being edited), since I ended up unable to turn mine off without restarting my phone. 😅 I was really messing around with those settings though. I just use it to keep track of historical birthdays and event anniversaries now since Orgzly Revived is my preferred time thing. The caldav syncing is a no brainer, though. It would be fine with Thunderbird/Betterbird on desktop.

Voice Recorder is good, I've been using it a lot actually. Paint seemed superfluous. Calculator is awful. The Launcher exists. Notes is okay, they should add encrypted sync and I might use it someday. Joplin and Markor are better. Camera is okay + exists. Keyboard gave me a horrible bug where it was unable to work on my phone unlock screen, three times. I had to wait for my phone battery to run out when that happened, because of its charmingly unremovable battery. Have not used music player since I have VLC.

I thought it was open source. It has a github repository, but I admit I'm not a tech guy...

[–] Cris16228@lemmy.today 2 points 23 hours ago

Not on fdroid

[–] gay_sex@mander.xyz 1 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Can't even change the theme unless I buy the "premium" :/

[–] Mylemmypt@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago

If you go to tip jar option, you just need to slide the Unlock toggle, even if you not contribute 🙂 If I like an app a try to contribute to it's development. I though that it was open source, but now I'm in doubt...
