If he wins I wonder how many of these settlements can Fox News keep paying?

[–] digital_man@lemmy.world 32 points 4 days ago

Agreed, I also like this strategy as it keeps it out the federal courts. Trump wants small government with corporations taking over it’s roles. Fine then we can tank and destroy those companies ( or at least try too)

You wonder? Fox is owned by Rupert Murdoch, one of the richest men on earth, who literally owns every other newspaper in australia, and a good chunk of the british press as well.

sure, but he'll liquidate Fox News to get rid of the suits if it comes down to it, and just drop another ultra right wing nazi propaganda media in its place the next day.

Let's hope we find out.

Fox will just redact it and make him make the apology. It won't be sincere, but I assume it gives credence to the case as well if they refuse.

[–] Kirp123@lemmy.world 2 points 4 days ago (1 children)

They didn't apologize to Dominion. They just paid them to go away.

[–] LifeInMultipleChoice@lemmy.dbzer0.com 4 points 4 days ago* (last edited 4 days ago)

Yeah but I doubt Dominion said we will drop the suit if you have the anchor apologize and redact the comments.

Dominion was likely hurt business wise as they went from making the voting systems for the largest economy on earth to being believed to be a part of a fraud scheme they didnt participate in, which likely loses them future profits

Retract.? And I don't see why he would need to apologize.

[–] LifeInMultipleChoice@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Retract his statements and redact everywhere they put it in text I imagine.

He would need to apologize for defaming someone. It's part of the terms made by his lawyers for them to drop the suit without it going anywhere further from what the article said.

Fox News spent a very large sum of money a long time ago to be classified as entertainment. I doubt they will need to spend anything now to get away with it.

[–] Almacca@aussie.zone 15 points 4 days ago (1 children)

That doesn't preclude them from defamation lawsuits.

[–] Bakkoda@sh.itjust.works 2 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Well aware. My point was how hard do you think they are gonna have to fight to dodge this in today's political climate?

[–] Almacca@aussie.zone 3 points 4 days ago

Only one way to find out.

[–] Cocopanda@lemmy.world 3 points 4 days ago

They would just form a new corporation. Transfer the assets to the new entity and then bankrupt News Corp. just like the Sacklers. Or how ever Purdue Pharma’s CEO’s spell their name.

Good, let them fight. I support 🤡 on 🤡 violence

The suit alleges that Fox News was motivated to “lie and distort on behalf of the President

Isn't that the Murdoch entire business model/plan/reason for existing...??? 🤡 💩

[–] defaultusername@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Only when it's a Republican president.

[–] aeternum@lemmy.blahaj.zone 2 points 3 days ago

or a right wing prime minister (of Australia, at least)

[–] anon_8675309@lemmy.world 9 points 4 days ago

I love that it’s 787.
