Rules:

  1. Post only links to articles, Title must fairly describe link contents. If your title differs from the site’s, it should only be to add context or be more descriptive. Do not post entire articles in the body or in the comments.

Links must be to the original source, not an aggregator like Google Amp, MSN, or Yahoo.

Example:

  1. Articles must be relevant to politics. Links must be to quality and original content. Articles should be worth reading. Clickbait, stub articles, and rehosted or stolen content are not allowed. Check your source for Reliability and Bias here.
  2. Be civil, No violations of TOS. It’s OK to say the subject of an article is behaving like a (pejorative, pejorative). It’s NOT OK to say another USER is (pejorative). Strong language is fine, just not directed at other members. Engage in good-faith and with respect! This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban.
  3. No memes, trolling, or low-effort comments. Reposts, misinformation, off-topic, trolling, or offensive. Similarly, if you see posts along these lines, do not engage. Going forward, slapfights will result in removed comments and temp bans to cool off.
  4. Vote based on comment quality, not agreement. This community aims to foster discussion; please reward people for putting effort into articulating their viewpoint, even if you disagree with it.
  5. No hate speech, slurs, celebrating death, advocating violence, or abusive language. This will result in a ban. Usernames containing racist, or inappropriate slurs will be banned without warning

We ask that the users report any comment or post that violate the rules, to use critical thinking when reading, posting or commenting. Users that post off-topic spam, advocate violence, have multiple comments or posts removed, weaponize reports or violate the code of conduct will be banned.

All posts and comments will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. This means that some content that violates the rules may be allowed, while other content that does not violate the rules may be removed. The moderators retain the right to remove any content and ban users.

That's all the rules!

Truly baffling that left wing policies designed to help the most people are appealing to most people

[–] ExLisper@lemmy.curiana.net 2 points 6 days ago

It is because most people were brainwashed into voting against their own best interest.

When a oligarchy aligned and backed centrist wins a dem primary by screwing progressives: "NOW IS THE TIME TO COME TOGETHER"

When anyone left of pelosi wins a dem primary: "THE LEFT IS DIVIDING DEMOCRATS!"

[–] macaro@lemmy.blahaj.zone 38 points 6 days ago (1 children)

You mean focusing on kitchen table politics instead of culture war BS? Shocking!

[–] CharlesDarwin@lemmy.world 24 points 6 days ago (2 children)

Amen to that. As a lefty, I have despaired at seeing some terminally online so-called "leftists" do ridiculous things like oppression olympics and arguing over who is more intersectional than thou. And the purity tests. Oh, the purity tests, gawd.

That is no way to run elections, FFS. People want to see what you are going to do for them. Even if that means "centering" white males and not having certain people "check their privilege". 🙄 You won't win jack squat by only appealing to the most pure humans you can find, as defined by people who don't seem to live in the real world.

So tired of the fringiest of the fringe lecturing others (including myself) on the most minor of details, all while we watch Republicans get more and more power and people like Taco going unchained. I think most of this is online, but some of this definitely spills over into campaigns and real life. I will never forget seeing people lecturing others that Chris Rock and Will Smith still don't have as much privilege as the average cishet white dude might have, as if money and class don't matter. Oh, and how anyone that voted for Bernie is a misogynist and racist because he focuses on issues of class. FFS, what even is this shit? Are these people trying to create more Republicans?

I'd like to see more Democrats get caught TRYING to do something for everyone. Tell the voters what you want to do for them at the outset and push for it. Don't come in at some tepid point between some made-up "liberal media" center and the rabid right and then "compromise" by moving even further right from that position.

I don't give a rat's ass about how many oppression olympics medals they have, and I really think most voters don't either. It's about the policies.

Frankly speaking the best barometer for discerning proper lefties who are just being nit picky about specific things and dipshits who do oppression Olympics as you call them is to ask them about logistics, surprisingly when ya start getting into the minutiae of distribution centers and trade routes the folks who want a medal tend to get bored and piss off. It's also a great way to talk to rural folks who have been fed a steady stream of propaganda and bullshit since it comfortably circumnavigates culture war trite, hell in one case I was talking light rail vs truck distribution with one dude and he muttered "Why did I hate you at first" because I am not particularly subtle about my economic preferences.

This is what you got out of Mamdani’s win?

They've said that for nearly a century.

After their attacks on this guy, it's plainly obvious to me that the elite have tried this narrative to have a controlled opposition.

The politics of minimizing potential loss is a losing strategy. Be for something instead.

The Rise of Zohran the Destroyer

[–] SnarkoPolo@lemmy.world 5 points 5 days ago

The danger is that the former mayor is running a well funded third party spoiler campaign.

[–] hperrin@lemmy.ca 3 points 5 days ago

Oh no! We’re so divided. Just because there’s one progressive winning notably lately. Omg, all hope is lost. The dems are doomed. We’re divided into a billion pieces.

Fuck outta here with this bullshit headline.

Splitting the Democratic party will not beat Trump. That's actually what got him re-elected.

[–] witty_username@feddit.nl 23 points 6 days ago* (last edited 6 days ago)

You're right. However, ranked choice voting will beat trump and prevent a similar moron to end up in power.
The no kings movement should have changing the voting system to ranked choice as their primary demand

[–] piefood@feddit.online 9 points 6 days ago

And Democratic leadership failing to deliver is what caused a split in the Democratic party. Mamdani is a chance for them to start delivering, and re-unite the party.

[–] Shiggles@sh.itjust.works 8 points 6 days ago

Whether or not this splits them is up to the useless old geezers who should have retired decades ago.

I’d have traded Bernie for axing all politicians over 60.

[–] Star@lemmy.blahaj.zone 5 points 6 days ago

Obviously the answer to populist fascism is socialism. In a world where information is more abundant than attention, this was inevitable.

[–] GuyFawkes@midwest.social 5 points 6 days ago

We don’t have to beat him again - just outlast him.

[–] atticus88th@lemmy.world 0 points 6 days ago

This may be a shock to some but the rest of the U.S. is not like NYC.
