It amazes me how the "Blue No Matter Who" types are strangely silent about Coumo running as independent.

It's almost like the American people are beginning to realize the 'Free Market' is not in their best interest after all.

[–] BlameTheAntifa@lemmy.world 5 points 15 hours ago (1 children)

It was never free. That was a lie. When they say “free market” they mean “whoever has the most money can do whatever they want”.

To the Capitalist, “free market” means “freedom to oppress and prevent any and all competition”. It’s nothing more than Randian-tinged doublespeak.

[–] Star@lemmy.blahaj.zone 2 points 13 hours ago

True enough. American's have been given just enough at large to think of themselves as 'global elite', and so it's no surprise how many of us act a bit spoiled once we're faced more directly with the reality.

At the very least perhaps we'll get a wakeup call, for those who need it. I hope.

He isn’t elected yet, is he?

[–] Asafum@feddit.nl 116 points 1 day ago (3 children)

Just as the Democratic nominee.

He still has to win the general election and looks like cumbucket coumo is going to run against him as an independent to split the vote and hope that the Republican can manage to win.

[–] DeathsEmbrace@lemmy.world 29 points 1 day ago

Hey thats offensive, reproductive material shouldn’t be mistaken for shit even if golden plated.

[–] Witchfire@lemmy.world 18 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Cuomo and Zohran have different electorates though. Cuomo is going to split the bill with Adams and the other batshit Republican.

~~Lol. Idiots don't even know how ranked choice works. You can't split the vote in an RCV campaign (spoiler effects still exist, but they're much harder to directly do like this)~~

~~Even the fucking polling is getting it wrong.~~

Nvm, shit FPTP for generals

[–] Feathercrown@lemmy.world 2 points 19 hours ago

"You can be cocky or wrong, but not both" 😛

Good on you for the edit though

[–] Asafum@feddit.nl 8 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

~~That's my mistake~~ I thought only the primary was rcv but the general election wasn't.

https://www.nycvotes.org/how-to-vote/ranked-choice-voting/

This specifically mentioned primary and special elections, not general.

[–] bus_factor@lemmy.world 4 points 1 day ago

As far as I know only the primary uses ranked choice, not the general election?

They're losing their minds because there's no rational reason to keep the current system going...

It's impossible to keep it going at the current pace. Doesn't matter if the wealthy want it to last forever. They can't keep accumulating more and more finite and necessary resources.

Eventually the current economic system will go away.

Just a matter of how that happens, and who is (figuratively and maybe literally) left standing when the dust settles

[–] Doc_Crankenstein@slrpnk.net 4 points 16 hours ago

No rational reason for the working class.

Thing is, the DNC doesn't represent the working class.

Just as well, the owning class who they do represent knows that the system won't last forever. They don't care about forever. They just care about "long enough to where I won't have to face consequences". That's what they are betting on.

Which is why it's up to the people they exploit to rise up and directly give the ruling class parasites some consequences.

[–] Asafum@feddit.nl 34 points 1 day ago (1 children)

They only understand scarcity when it makes money for them. They treat the economics textbook as a Bible, literally, they just pick what parts they like and ignore the rest...

[–] givesomefucks@lemmy.world 17 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

It's the same as any other group that manages to accumulate this much.

They just refuse to believe it's not sustainable, and if you don't agree with them. Then they fire you if you worked for them, if you were a politician they found a competitor to knock you out of office and say the lies they wanted to hear.

Which is the crux of the issue.

They've spent decades and billions of bribes to make sure there were two options, and both would do what billionaires tell them to. But the billionaires no longer control both parties.

Hell, they arguably don't control either, trump just usually agrees with them on his own.

[–] Doc_Crankenstein@slrpnk.net 1 points 16 hours ago* (last edited 16 hours ago)

Lol the capitalist owning class absolutely still controls both parties, and Trump is performing exactly as expected for their interests.

You have one party that still wants to maintain the capitalist status quo, and the other who see that it is in decay and want to fast track the decline into fascism to entrench their power before the working class revolts.

[–] grrgyle@slrpnk.net 5 points 1 day ago

I mean they could keep going until the last wild tree dies, the last fish chokes, and the last person gets to breathe for free. And then the whole system crashes, because there's literally nothing left to take.

I agree it's unsustainable, I just think that unless we do something to stop them, they will literally let us die by the billions, if it means they get to be in charge of the toxic landfill planet.

[–] 332@feddit.nu 14 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I like Mamdani but not to the extent that I can endorse unironic joker memes.

[–] scops@reddthat.com 4 points 1 day ago

Yeah, this is one meme template that comes with too much baggage

[–] SatansMaggotyCumFart@lemmy.world 10 points 1 day ago (2 children)

I see the republicans losing their minds but I see a lot of democrats backing and endorsing him.

[–] Witchfire@lemmy.world 17 points 1 day ago

Top Dems are split, half of them are trying to back Mr. 13 Sexual Scandals

[–] njm1314@lemmy.world 4 points 20 hours ago (1 children)

Oh damn, that was actually less than I thought it was going to be. Only five National figures. All of which are on the outs with the main party. That's worrying.

[–] Doc_Crankenstein@slrpnk.net 2 points 16 hours ago

Unfortunately it is also to be expected.

[–] Rooskie91@discuss.online 6 points 1 day ago

This is your friendly remind that one of the reasons for demonizing and subsequently genociding the natives was that people would regularly join them for a better quality of life.

The system knows it's terrible and the only way to maintain itself is to make, by any means necessary, all other systems unobtainable.

[–] Birch@sh.itjust.works 6 points 1 day ago (1 children)

When is the actual election so I can ignore these posts until then as not to get my hopes up?

[–] Asafum@feddit.nl 5 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Nov 4th. Unfortunately we have a while to go lol

[–] NigelFrobisher@aussie.zone 4 points 18 hours ago

Bloody hell. Can you not just run the election and then it’s done? It’s even worse than US football for making you wait forever for anything to happen.

[–] finitebanjo@lemmy.world 0 points 18 hours ago

There is this narrative people are pushing all over that the entire world is against Mamdani and that the DNC is on some crusade against him, and the people pushing it desperately want it to be true with all of their being despite 3 out of 83 of the democrat state legislators being the only ones to speak out against him.

But I only see people talking about how cool he is and how nice it will be to have him instead of Cuomo in charge for a change.
