Next time, head to the article's talk page, add a topic, and click "include -> template", type "semi protected edit request" and fill that template and submit your edit to the talk page. It is effectively what you've just done, but on wikipedia itself.

There is something wrong with UX of Wikipedia edit page if someone found it easier to go to some other forum and ask for edit instead of editing it on Wikipedia itself
I'm pretty sure this is explained on the talk page with a bigass banner but that's only for those with the eyes to see
