And if your pfp is a profile cross-section of a human head with a baby curled, and sleeping, where the brain would otherwise be?

On Lemmy I feel like we do the same except for instances. Some person signs up with an instance oblivious to its politics but will get judged based on it.

[–] WalrusDragonOnABike@reddthat.com 78 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Of course someone on .world would say that. /j

[–] lemjukes@lemmy.world 32 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (1 children)

But also blocking .ml instances by default is a great way to reduce your exposure to stupid ass takes and arguments. /not a joke

[–] blarghly@lemmy.world 24 points 1 week ago (3 children)

Except people accidentally join dumb instances. Nobody accidentally sets their pfp as a preteen anime girl. That shit is a choice.

Did actually do that once.

Is it really a valid point if you have an anime PFP?

[–] Grandwolf319@sh.itjust.works 32 points 1 week ago (8 children)

Hot take: it’s totally fair to judge someone based on their avatar as that’s literary what it is, a pictorial summary of what you’re all about.

[–] zalgotext@sh.itjust.works 11 points 1 week ago (17 children)

Counterpoint: sometimes it's just a funny picture I like, and sometimes it's some anime titties I like. Assuming it's always going to be a meaningful representation of the user is unrealistic.

[–] Vespair@lemmy.zip 1 points 6 days ago* (last edited 6 days ago) (1 children)

I mean it tells me that you're somebody who weighs levity over seriousness. Even if it doesn't specifically tell me who you are, to imply that any choice is devoid of meaning is equally unrealistic.

Good thing my joke comment on a joke thread on a meme post didn't imply anything of the sort then

[–] Vespair@lemmy.zip 0 points 6 days ago (1 children)

Bro do you think I typed this through clenched teeth or something? My comment was in exactly the same light tone as yours.

[–] zalgotext@sh.itjust.works 0 points 6 days ago

Nope, just clarifying since you seemed to be confused. Anything else I can help with, let me know partner

Your not going to stop me from saying unhinged shit in political subs.

[–] blarghly@lemmy.world 16 points 1 week ago (2 children)

And you can't stop me from feeling your argument is invalid

Can't argue with that.

Plot twist - the one calling out your anime pfp has a furry pfp

[–] Passerby6497@lemmy.world 32 points 1 week ago

If the topic is tech related, the furry instantly gains +1 credibility

The trick is to not have an anime pfp and just make terrible arguments in general

[–] ivanafterall@lemmy.world 1 points 6 days ago

I'd argue that's nothing more than an ad hominem strawman.

Maybe you just need to find the right community for your profile picture? Then you are unstoppable.

[–] Exusia@lemmy.world 19 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I'm in this picture and I hate it

Greek gods casting their ballot is actually a great propaganda image for democracy
