"I have too much to do, so I'm going to take a nap." Galaxy brain logic there, self.

[–] bear@lemmy.blahaj.zone 3 points 5 days ago

Me last night: I don't have much free time before my friend is coming over so I better cleanup some of the sprawling messes. Also me: I've never taken the espresso machine apart to clean it before, so that should be my priority!

I have so much to do I'd better have a coffee

Slurp

I'm so tired I need a nap, but I'm too full of caffeine to take one

Scrolls mindlessly

My move in those situations is to leave the house so i can't be distracted by stuff at home. I then spend the next several hours trying to find the right place where i can work, none of which actually lead to me working, and then eventually it's time to go home and start trying to get my brain into sleep mode for the night. See?! Problem solved!!

Instead of either of those things, why not scroll your phone for a few hours?

Lack of executive function = your brain and your body are no longer on speaking terms.

Mine only meet once a day when I'm exercising 🤷

that's the best description that i've heard so far

basically your brain demands your body to do stuff that your body instinctively knows are bullshit

bullshit jobs everywhere. we're so estranged from the environment, we work for other people's pocket all the time, and nothing of this economy we own. of course our bodies rebel.

Except that it also happens with shit you love doing. That's kinda how I realized there was something wrong with me and I wasn't just lazy/didn't wanna do certain things.

"I want to do this. I am motivated to do this. Why the hell am I not able to make myself start doing it?"

"How can you expect me to concentrate when there is one (1) empty coffee cup on my desk? I need to clean up this chaotic mess. It's Too LOUD!"

[–] gandalf_der_12te@discuss.tchncs.de 3 points 5 days ago (1 children)

also if you remove the coffee cup, you suddenly realize how clean-cut the borders of the desk are and that distracts you too

also look at all this dust on the desk

this is inacceptable. i have to spend 15 minutes first cleaning the desk with soap. but when i did that, it's wet and i can't put anything there. so i have to cook food and eat first. but after that my tummy is fully and i have no energy left to think. 1 hour later ok let's do this. ok wait it only took 15 minutes to do all the homework.

We are all ADHD Alice, tumbling down the rabbit hole.

fxomt is that you? :D

Basically whole my life since 6 y.o. up until now. That is a reason why I hate any kind of homework, and especially working remotely — because it makes work essentially a homework.

Instead of putting away this side project, maybe just finish it while I'm at it. Now what was I hung up on last...
