[โ€“] kernelle@0d.gs 6 points 2 months ago

not me holding myself back to spin up a piefed server

[โ€“] gigachad@sh.itjust.works 24 points 2 months ago (3 children)

I am still waiting for some Voyager fixes, then I'll switch forever

[โ€“] NotSteve_@piefed.ca 4 points 2 months ago

I've been using it full time for a while now! I sometimes forget I'm not just using Lemmy

[โ€“] umbraroze@piefed.social 4 points 2 months ago

Oh wow, Voyager supports Piefed? Great, I can uninstall these other apps then.

~~What's the difference between Lemmy and Piefed?~~

Nvm. Found exactly what I was looking for here

[โ€“] Turret3857@infosec.pub 13 points 2 months ago (2 children)

Are there any good piefed apps yet? I'd love to make the switch but I havent seen anything pop up on F-Droid yet

[โ€“] Sunshine@piefed.ca 21 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Piefed works with Voyager!

[โ€“] Turret3857@infosec.pub 10 points 2 months ago (2 children)

Fr?? I had no idea. You might've just switched me LOL

[โ€“] Deceptichum@quokk.au 9 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago)

If you need an instance; quokk.au is a smaller instance that's been running for over 2 years now (on Lemmy originally but switched to PieFed).

[โ€“] mintiefresh@piefed.ca 3 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago)

Yes! Just need to sign up for the beta. It works relatively well. Not all the features are on yet but it's developing rapidly (Piefed & Voyager both) and it's been daily usable for me.

Summit, Blorp, Mlem and Interstellar also have Piefed support as well.

[โ€“] Blaze@lemmy.dbzer0.com 13 points 2 months ago (2 children)

Interstellar, Voyager, Summit, Blorp, Mlem

[โ€“] OpenStars@piefed.social 8 points 2 months ago (2 children)

Whatever happened to the Thunder fork - I never hear any news of it these days despite it having been started first?

[โ€“] freamon@preferred.social 9 points 2 months ago (1 children)

It ended up being more of a proof-of-concept than anything. I forked Thunder by banging my fists on the keyboard until it worked, rather than actually learn anything about Flutter/Dart or proper app development. As soon as another Flutter app came along (Interstellar), I leapt at the chance to abandon it.

[โ€“] OpenStars@piefed.social 3 points 2 months ago

Hrm... so just like all software development then? ๐Ÿ˜œ

[โ€“] Blaze@lemmy.dbzer0.com 7 points 2 months ago (2 children)

@andrew_s@piefed.social was working on it, based on his profile he's probably on vacation

[โ€“] OpenStars@piefed.social 6 points 2 months ago

He deserves it, and I hope he comes back well rested:-).

[โ€“] freamon@preferred.social 4 points 2 months ago (1 children)

I'm not on vacation - I just tend to use this account instead.

[โ€“] Blaze@lemmy.dbzer0.com 4 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Noted! By the way, any chance you could restart !trendingcommunities@feddit.nl ?

[โ€“] freamon@preferred.social 3 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Nope. I don't agree with cm0002's campaign of reposting everything posted to a lemmy.ml community to a community hosted elsewhere, so I don't want to run a bot that suggests there's genuine growth somewhere when I consider any growth there to be driven by bullshit. The bot was never sophisticated enough to distinguish between the two.

[โ€“] Blaze@sopuli.xyz 3 points 2 months ago (1 children)
[โ€“] cm0002@lemmy.world 2 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago) (1 children)

I'm nearing completion of my own bot now, hopefully it's first post will be later today. Will probably need some adjustment later on since I threw it together in just a weekend (well more like 8 hours across a weekend, a little here and there because life lmao)

Yea, it's not really a fair point (well beyond "its his bot to do with what he pleases" anyways) my interpretation of his comment was "I'm pissed it's actually working and people are actually subscribing and growing non-.ml comms so I'm taking my toy and going home" ยฏโ \โ _โ (โ ใƒ„โ )โ _โ /โ ยฏ LMAO

[โ€“] lemmyknow@lemmy.today 1 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Say, which would you recommend? Maybe I'll take a look into them all. As a Jerboa user, I reckon support might not come (afaik Jerboa is an official Lemmy client). I just vibe with Jerboa's simplicity. Not gonna get overwhelmed with options and features here. Plus, it looks good!

[โ€“] Blaze@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 2 months ago

Voyager or Summit? It's up to personal preference mostly, the other ones are good option too!

[โ€“] BagOfHeavyStones@piefed.social 6 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Will we ever be able to put pictures in comments?

[โ€“] 0ops@piefed.zip 5 points 2 months ago (1 children)

altr

Like upload or just link? Because you can link with ![some alt text](image_url.jpg)

[โ€“] BagOfHeavyStones@piefed.social 2 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Upload I mean. On Lemmy / Voyager I just click the image icon and select a modest sized image.

I can understand them not having the option as it costs money. Facebook can clearly afford it but we can't. Maybe it could be a premium option in the future.

[โ€“] 0ops@piefed.zip 2 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Hmm, it works on piefed.zip in Summit on Android. Maybe that's a policy with your instance? It's possible that your client doesn't have that as an option. Last I tried I couldn't figure out how to upload in Interstellar.

[โ€“] BagOfHeavyStones@piefed.social 1 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Aah OK that's good to know. I'm currently using the PWA. I'll try Summit and report back.

[โ€“] BagOfHeavyStones@piefed.social 1 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago) (1 children)

Options in Summit: Preview, Drafts, ยฏ_(ใƒ„)_/ยฏ, text emojis, **bold **, italics, ~~scratch that~~ and > that's what she said.

No image option, so maybe it's just Piefed.social that doesn't have images.

[โ€“] 0ops@piefed.zip 3 points 2 months ago (1 children)

For what it's worth, I see it in the bottom bar and I had to swipe almost all the way to the right to see the icon.

[โ€“] BagOfHeavyStones@piefed.social 5 points 2 months ago (1 children)

You're right! I didn't realise that the bar was able to move. Thanks for your help!

Now to explore Summit...

[โ€“] 0ops@piefed.zip 2 points 2 months ago
[โ€“] Klear@lemmy.world 6 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Waiting for Boost to support it, then I'm moving.

[โ€“] PotatoesFall@discuss.tchncs.de 4 points 2 months ago (1 children)

I read through the differences with Lemmy and nothing really convinced me right off the bat. For what reasons do you personally prefer piefed?

Actual instance blocking

[โ€“] PotatoesFall@discuss.tchncs.de 5 points 2 months ago (1 children)

holy shit that's metal af why is that not the first thing on the list

[โ€“] rimu@piefed.social 2 points 2 months ago

Because I haven't updated that page in about a year.

There's been soooo many new features since then but I have a hard time knowing what people new to PieFed really need to know about...

[โ€“] oftheair@lemmy.blahaj.zone 3 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Actual instance blocking

Does it also have actual user blocking too i.e. two way?

[โ€“] Blaze@sopuli.xyz 1 points 2 months ago (1 children)
[โ€“] oftheair@lemmy.blahaj.zone 1 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Oh, might have to give it a look then. Since that is our biggest gripe with lemmy.

[โ€“] Blaze@sopuli.xyz 2 points 2 months ago (1 children)
[โ€“] oftheair@lemmy.blahaj.zone 1 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Yeah, we hadn't considered it until now, but if it does has two way blocking we might move over. Is there any source saying it does have that feature, and do existing lemmy apps work with it, or do we need a whole new app?

[โ€“] Blaze@sopuli.xyz 1 points 2 months ago

For apps there is Voyager, Summit, Blorp and Mlem who support Piefed

For the blocking feature documentation, @rimu@piefed.social is there something? I had a look for 5 minutes but couldn't find anything

[โ€“] mintiefresh@piefed.ca 2 points 2 months ago
