Welcome to the discussion of US Politics!

Rules:

  1. Post only links to articles, Title must fairly describe link contents. If your title differs from the site’s, it should only be to add context or be more descriptive. Do not post entire articles in the body or in the comments.

Links must be to the original source, not an aggregator like Google Amp, MSN, or Yahoo.

Example:

  1. Articles must be relevant to politics. Links must be to quality and original content. Articles should be worth reading. Clickbait, stub articles, and rehosted or stolen content are not allowed. Check your source for Reliability and Bias here.
  2. Be civil, No violations of TOS. It’s OK to say the subject of an article is behaving like a (pejorative, pejorative). It’s NOT OK to say another USER is (pejorative). Strong language is fine, just not directed at other members. Engage in good-faith and with respect! This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban.
  3. No memes, trolling, or low-effort comments. Reposts, misinformation, off-topic, trolling, or offensive. Similarly, if you see posts along these lines, do not engage. 4. Vote based on comment quality, not agreement. This community aims to foster discussion; please reward people for putting effort into articulating their viewpoint, even if you disagree with it.

All posts and comments will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. This means that some content that violates the rules may be allowed, while other content that does not violate the rules may be removed. The moderators retain the right to remove any content and ban users.

That's all the rules!

Yeah, fuck the Emoluments Clause.

[–] jpreston2005@lemmy.world 39 points 3 days ago

Oh so they all admit it IS A FUCKING BRIBE THEN? GODDAMNIT FUCK EVERY SINGLE ONE OF THESE SLIMY FUCKS

[–] Octavio@lemmy.world 66 points 3 days ago (3 children)

Plot twist: he’s not leaving office. Don’t tell me about the 22nd amendment. He’s already in office in violation of the 14th. He’s not dying anytime soon either. Rotten fucks like him always live well into their 90s, fueled by hate. Just look at Rupert Murdoch.

[–] phutatorius@lemmy.zip 2 points 1 day ago

He'll leave office in a few years (let it be very few), whether walking, dragged, or feet-first.

[–] ChickenLadyLovesLife@lemmy.world 33 points 3 days ago (4 children)

Murdoch's age is just insane. His fucking father was a stain on humanity during fucking WWI, and that dude was already in his 30s at the time.

Even if the plane itself was "free", they are voting to make a $1B gift (the cost to retrofit the plane) from tax money to one guy personally?

[–] crusa187@lemmy.ml 37 points 3 days ago

Have to pay for this instead of healthcare or housing. Land of the free!

[–] Doomsider@lemmy.world 10 points 3 days ago

Today's word is corruption!

Well, he's never going to leave the Oval Office at the end of this term, so the point is kind of moot.

[–] NocturnalMorning@lemmy.world 38 points 3 days ago (10 children)

He might have to leave bcz he doesn't know who he is. Trust me on this one, dude is barely lucid most days. If he croaks before the end of his term, it'll be a good day for USA'ians. Even if it doesn't fix the problem entirely, he's a shit stain on the human race.

[–] phutatorius@lemmy.zip 1 points 1 day ago (1 children)

If he croaks before the end of his term, it’ll be a good day for USA’ians.

It'll be even more unstable with Vance in charge.

[–] NocturnalMorning@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago

Maybe, Vance doesn't have control of the MAGA crowd at all. If Trump dies, there's a good chance the movement dies with him.

[–] Kyrgizion@lemmy.world 42 points 3 days ago (9 children)

Reminder that Dick Cheney is still alive. Kissinger also lived to be a 100.

Evil seems to have a way to sustain certain people far beyond what would seem natural for most others.

I guess it's encouraging that they think he'll ever be leaving office alive.

[–] turtlesareneat@discuss.online 22 points 3 days ago (2 children)

Everyone has been put under a normalization spell, the trauma was too intense too long. I tried explaining to another liberal my fears about this term's version of the January 6 insurrection, he looked at me like I was crazy. People are trained to believe the ping-pong will go on forever, save and easy.

[–] samus12345@sh.itjust.works 15 points 3 days ago (3 children)

We're spoiled from having peaceful transfers of power for so long. It Can't Happen Here.

isn't any gift received by the president property of the government? or so i gathered from watching the west wing 😆

[–] TomMasz@lemmy.world 117 points 4 days ago (1 children)

That's how it used to work.

[–] DarkDarkHouse@lemmy.sdf.org 11 points 3 days ago

Haha, laws, those were the days

[–] themeatbridge@lemmy.world 67 points 3 days ago (2 children)

So much of our government worked on the idea that nobody would be brazen enough to break convention, and the untested belief that voters would immediately and vehemently reject anyone trying to openly abuse their power.

We now know both of those assumptions were wrong.

[–] bitjunkie@lemmy.world 20 points 3 days ago (1 children)

The country was formed when there were like 2 million people in it. We should have thrown everything out and rewritten it decades if not centuries ago.

[–] themeatbridge@lemmy.world 25 points 3 days ago

That was actually the explicit plan, per Thomas Jefferson.

It was gifted to his presidential library. So no. Only Trump can use it. Pretty fucked up huh?

[–] pelespirit@sh.itjust.works 38 points 3 days ago (6 children)

But it's going to cost around 1 billion to renovate by our tax dollars.

Hey Doge! I think you can cut some waste right here!

Emoluments clause? No? Anyone? Anyone?

[–] AmidFuror@fedia.io 34 points 3 days ago

Went out the window in 2017.

[–] spongebue@lemmy.world 26 points 3 days ago (2 children)

No Title of Nobility shall be granted by the United States: And no Person holding any Office of Profit or Trust under them, shall, without the Consent of the Congress, accept of any present, Emolument, Office, or Title, of any kind whatever, from any King, Prince, or foreign State.

Technically that right there would make it ok if the house passes the same. But my God, if we're going to use that qualifier to let the president have something from a foreign state did it have to be a fucking 747?

That's a white elephant gift.

If he's still around, maintenance on that thing isn't gonna be affordable

[–] phutatorius@lemmy.zip 1 points 1 day ago

The Republicn Congress will probably saddle the US taxpayer with the upgrade and maintenance bill too.

[–] Tigeroovy@lemmy.ca 8 points 2 days ago

I'll go one further, how about he get buried in it?

[–] mhague@lemmy.world 13 points 3 days ago

[–] snf@lemmy.world 29 points 3 days ago (1 children)

"Emolument"? You sound gay and your shit's all retarded

[–] CPMSP@midwest.social 14 points 3 days ago

Don't worry scrote! My ex wife's tarded too and she's living a kickass life!

[–] Sterile_Technique@lemmy.world 27 points 3 days ago

Give it to the Air Force so they can test out a few missiles on it.

Preferably with Trump still inside it.

...this evening.

[–] MangioneDontMiss@lemmy.ca 6 points 2 days ago

Corruption yeah!

[–] bitwolf@sh.itjust.works 5 points 2 days ago

So this will be taxed as a gift right?... Right?

[–] r_deckard@lemmy.world 17 points 3 days ago (1 children)

I'm curious to know who is going to pay to keep it airworthy, if DT does leave office? Those things aren't cheap to maintain.

If he leaves office he won't be in a position to grant political favours to friends.

[–] Furbag@lemmy.world 17 points 3 days ago

His Trumpcoin scam is one rugpull away from being converted to actual useful money.

[–] some_guy@lemmy.sdf.org 29 points 3 days ago (1 children)

No one could have seen this coming. We’re such a clown show.

[–] zurchpet@lemmy.ml 18 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Banana republic

A banana republic is a country with an economy of state capitalism, where the country is operated as a private commercial enterprise for the exclusive profit of the ruling class. Typically, a banana republic has a society of extremely stratified social classes, usually a large impoverished working class and a ruling class plutocracy, composed of the business, political, and military elites. The ruling class controls the primary sector of the economy by exploiting labor.
