Hear me out... Going back in time to kill Hitler, but it's not that precise and he's still an innocent kid.

Okay, but this anime actually is deep and full of stupid lines too and it's amazing

Sauce is Legend of the Galactic Heroes. It essentially explores the question of what is better between a fragile and easily corrupted democracy, and a benevolent dictatorship. Expect conversations about the merits of different forms of government interspersed with heinous treasons and gigantic space battles where no-one ever thinks of using the 3rd dimension for some reason.

It's adapted from a series of SF novels and the anime is from the 80s/90s so kinda dated but still holds up. There are 110 episodes in the main series plus 50 more so you're in for the long haul, but it's great! There was a reboot a couple years ago subtitled "Die Neue These", but I think it only went on for like half a season.

Second the recommendation.

Very old but if you crave space opera with competent characters with really thought provoking concepts its fantastic. Closest i got to anything like it since is Tytania.

Here's how my dad and I watch it. I've seen it before, and though he was skeptical at first (anime isn't his thing), he fully loves it now

I mean, some find Jordan Peterson deep.

A ton of people are as deep as a puddle

Unironically though, this anime IS actually pretty deep. The screenshot is from a conversation where he's being purposefully blunt

But what if you've traveled back in time to April 20, 1896?
