Not sure there has ever been a better example of good training and calm under pressure than the crew he commanded on 13. Fucking legend, RIP

Listening to the actual Apollo 13 communications recordings is wild. Maybe it's just the recording, but they sound so focused and professional that the film characters seem panicky by comparison!

There's a whole scene in the film where they're freaking out and Tom Hanks asks something like "are we on vox?!" and then is chill once he actually calls in to Houston. I get the idea of artistic license for dramatic effect, but I always thought it was such a slight on the professionalism of that crew to even claim there was such a breakdown.

Holy shit he was still alive? Wow, wonder what he thought of the movie?

He was one of the writers.

He's in it. He's the guy who greets Tom Hanks and shakes his hand on he recovery ship after they reenter.

Revisited Apollo 13 this morning. The entirety of their mission, from grinding simulations to Saturn 5 clearing the tower to disaster to recovery is a testament to what a roomful (and LEM full) of humanity at the top of their game can accomplish.
