That's the pedo in Nevada who was saved due to his ties with the Israeli government right?

[–] thann@lemmy.world 61 points 1 month ago (1 children)

[–] bdot@lemmy.world 20 points 1 month ago (1 children)

fun fact : “Semitic” actually refers to a whole bunch of different peoples; Jews, Ethiopians, and Arabs, to name some of the modern ones. there’s a few others too, and the word is based on language, rather than ethnicity!

[–] aviationeast@lemmy.world 1 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Is that a group of language or just one?

[–] bdot@lemmy.world 2 points 1 month ago

it is a group of languages ; Arabic, Aramaic, Hebrew, and a few others

Was gonna argue that I already knew this story from quite a few outlets and then realized, oh right, The Guardian (UK), The Independent (again UK) and Reuters (also UK) aren't US. I apparently get most of my US news from British companies, albeit US branches.

Hey at least local Las Vegas affiliates covered it. Sigh.

It’ll simply get buried because it’s inconvenient for the leadership.

Now that genocide and ethnic cleansing has been normalized and freedom of speech suspended to spare Israel's blushes.

I'm guessing fucking children will be the next thing to be normalized.

I'm still confused how Tom Artyom Alexandrovich is his full name. As it's used in articles and on wiki, Tom is his name, Artyom is ??? and Alexandrovich is supposedly a surname. For my ear it is a mess, see why below, but do know that's only a theory.

Between eastern slav nations (a lot of israeli immigrants came from here, from USSR and after), Alexandrovich is a popular patronim (son of Alexander), Artyom is a name, and Tom could be a short-hand for Artyom and\or nickname and\or the englification of his name on documents, - and by this logic there's no surname.

I don't see how it came to be, but what I know - is (ex) soviet people, especially in official context, used to call each other by name+patronim, e.g. Artyom Alexandrovich, and as a cybersec guy and an arrested pedophile who wanted to keep a low profile (and kept for some time?), he could've tried to avoid disclosing his real surname. Probably a sound tactic for someone like him, but other than that, his surname could lead to other interesting discoveries.

Ok so number 1, this post is not a meme and should be deleted by a mod as it breaks the stated rules of the community. There are plenty of other communities that this could be posted to.

2 this seems fairly normal according to all the interviewed officials except Pam Bondi, Marjorie Traitor Greene, and other R's who are trying to tar this as a (((deep state))) / liberal/Democratic AG action. I'm personally careful about jumping on their bandwagon, even if its related to a state official of a criminal government (Likud) that's currently committing a genocide.

Interviewees all state this is the standard bail for this crime in Las Vegas, others charged also posted bail and none submitted their passport. It is not uncommon for people charged to return to their home country if the US has an extradition treaty with them (as the US does with Israel).

  1. it is literally a meme and you are a stick in the mud
  2. it is insanely news worthy, and not being widely covered. if it is "normal" maybe it should not be...
